Mike is awesome!
Chicken was good, just how I remember it from years ago. Could've used a little more flavor, but was hot and crispy. Dining tables were a lil cramped. Charges 1.00 for a refill on your drink, which i feel is a ripoff.
A dying California classic. But their fried chicken is still tops.
Terrible service, cooks take to damn long, not enough people working there. Don't go there, your going to wait over an hour.....
As soon as I seen the fries I was served, I knew that the chicken strips flavor profile wouldn’t be the same. And I was right. As this location’s chicken strips not only didn’t have that orange ring, the texture of the chicken was different. Like, the flavor profile, of Pioneer chicken strips, that I loved growing up wasn’t happening at this location.
I’m hoping the Pioneer on Soto St will have maintained the flavor that Pioneer Chicken was known for. I think that it will. As their fries look just like they did back in the day. To be fair. This location has excellent service. And the restaurant itself is very nostalgic 👏
Best fried chicken
Chicken was fresh hot, did need a little seasoning, rolls weren't good & mashed potatoes.
The food is great but the male server is terrible. He was unnecessarily rude. His tone was bordering hostile. He also said they were out of biscuits at 6:50 pm when they close at 9.

Pioneer chicken is a classic fried chicken quick stop restaurant. The chicken is made to order and always crispy and very tasty. The fries are tasty of course since they're fried in the tasty oil being used. The spicy rice is good, spicy, and has chunks of shredded chicken in it. When you step inside, if you're old enough to remember, this is what small restaurants felt like in the 80s. If you think the other fast food chicken restaurants around are good and worth your money, you haven't been to Pioneer chicken. Because one visit here and you'll never go anywhere else.

Restaurantji Recommends
Was recommended from a coworker. First time when my mom & I showed up inside, you can just sense the atmosphere that this place was dead because there was no great customer service. Food wasn’t too bad but its something I wouldn’t return to this restaurant. Oh btw, the guy who took our orders didn’t seemed too pleasant to be there, no greet or a smile. As my mom & I were sitting down eating, we’ve witnessed that the cashier’s attitude completely changed to other customers walking in, greeting them etc but not to us while he was standing looking bored/unhappy with his life.

My experience was awful! If you want food on your lunchbreak this is the worst place to go to. I was in drive-thru for 20 minutes with only 1 car ahead of me. The cashier was really rude, when I pulled up to the window to pay I asked why so much for my meal and a drink $14.95, she said it was because of the credit fees, I said okay. She handed me my drink and it was a large when I had asked for a small ,she then proceeded to say sorry I thought you asked for large and said don't worry it's only a few cents more when in reality it's like $2 more. Then I get a notification on my phone saying I've been charged $15.70. that means she lied once again about the credit fee being included in my first total because it was added after the fact. My meal went from me wanting to spend $10 to being up sold a large drink without me wanting it, then the cashier telling me (ohh don't worry it's only a few cents) like she knows anyone's financial situation, to her telling me my total already included the credit transaction fee, to then finding out it wasn't. On top of all that, she still wanted to charge me for ranch! Uggh..
This place has really lost its interest of being an iconic chicken place. They should take more pride in that uniqueness and really pay attention to the people they hire.

I made a review about here about two years ago. The guy on the register is NOT a happy camper. He's rude and doesn't look like he wants to be here. I see nothing has changed. Once again, it doesn't go with the nostalgic Pioneer brand that we all remember from our child hood. I notice when females come in, he's quick and rude. And when guys come in, everything is good with. BRO or DUDE. It's like "WoW". He must be the owners family because I've been receiving this treatment for Years but still continue to come because of the food. I tried Boyle Heights but the breading taste HORRIBLE. But that's another review for another day. Please find someone who wants to smoke and work there......Sincerely a customer who cares.
