Great atmosphere, good food, service was fantastic!!! Our wine was too pricey, but it was our friends who ordered the wine, dessert was excellent!!!
I don’t remember having pasta this good since I visited Italy back in 2014. I ordered the Tagliatelle, I loved how the noodles were so thin and the beef/sauce was just the right balance. The sfincione in bianco (focaccia) was amazing, reminded me of the one in Felix. Next time I’ll have to get a side of ricotta as a dip. For dessert, ended up getting the Tartino al Cioccolato - the textures were incredible and now is my all time favorite dessert. In my opinion, this is the best Italian restaurant in all of LA. Chef Funke really knows what he is doing. Can’t wait to go back and try more dishes!
Evan is a master!!!!
An otherwise fantastic dining experience was unfortunately marred by the bizarre check-in my guest had when he arrived slightly early (the the rest of our party slightly late). He was referred to the upstairs bar on the second floor and the bartender didn't serve him drinks until he (the bartender) left the bar to go downstairs to make sure my friend was actually part of a reservation. Then when I arrived and was told that I needed to notify my friend to come down so that we could be seated I mistakenly went to the roof bar to find him where I was treated rudely by the hosts. This was on a Tuesday at 5pm lol. Felt like I was trying to sneak into a CIA office.
Great-but-not-amazing food combined with high expectations fuels this three-star review. For what could have been an exceptional experience at this budget in LA, this was pretty average. Started on the right track with a perfect tender yet fluffy Sicilian Focaccia. The ensuing salad and pastas were nice but unremarkable. The Florentine steak was borderline disappointing. Not the juicy or umami-filled experience that various steaks have generated for me in the past.
My east coast Aunt loved critiquing the ricotta cheesecake, but I rocked with it + our amazing sorbet + other desserts.
Our half-circle booth was cramped for 4. Not the table or leg space that one would expect. Overall nice interior could have a variety of folks there.
I cannot rave about this enough! My experience at Funke was incredible. I walked in with no reservation as a party of one, and they were more than accommodating with no notice. They even offered me a choice between the outdoor rooftop patio or the mezzanine bar with the full dinner menu! I was brought upstairs and sat at the gorgeous marble bar, where behind the counter on the ceiling mounted TV they were streaming a live feed of their pasta kitchen downstairs where a chef was rolling out the pasta fresh by hand. I’d found out about this place from the Netflix documentary, “Chef’s Table: Pasta,” and it fully lived up to the hype. The signature tagliatelle was life changing. I’ll never be able to look at store bought pasta without a little regret and my homemade pasta skills are woefully rusty compared to the windowpane thin strands of pasta I was served. The service was incredible: thoughtful and patient and always ready to take my lead when I was ready for the next steps of service. While the atmosphere was lively and the music was driving, it was loud for a Monday night. I won’t hold that too much against them. To be a busy restaurant going into a recession that is fully booked on a Monday is a fantastic problem to have. I can’t wait to come back with my husband so I can eat the other 90% of the menu I couldn’t get to as just one person.
Had to wait 20 minutes after booking time to be seated. Two wrong dishes were brought out that we did not order. Food we did order was good, wine was good. Was very loud, could barely hear wait staff
This place does not live up to its hype. From the initial interaction with the host, to the staff member who sat us, to the waitress - HORRIBLE. So unfriendly and gave off the impression that we were lucky to be there vs treating us as welcomed guests.
The food is decent. Pasta was not al dente and not cooked properly. I didn’t complain but gave our waitress constructive feedback and she was baffled / gave immense attitude.
The valet situation is also not ideal. Having your guest park in a dirty alley way and walking down it to enter the front door of the restaurant is not very “Beverly Hills”.
Skip this place and go to osteria mozza. It’s always a solid experience.
It’s my favorite restaurant in LA it really doesn’t matter what you get it’s all good! Everything goes with everything. That quality never dips!
Beautiful experience at the bar, delicious steak and pasta

The bagel with burrata and veggies is a must have, it is flavor in every bite. If I were to come back I might just come back for this one. The drink was as bad as it could poss be. We ordered two of the chef special pastas. The ravioli in butter sauce was simple but oh so good. The other pasta was in red sauce with zucchini, didn’t quite hit the spot. The overall experience was nice, especially the staff spending time to explain things on the menu.
Things I did not like-
1) even after making a reservation we were given a shitty table in the corner, where we were sitting almost in the lap of the party next to us.
2) The price is too high , but maybe it’s justified because of the location.
3)It all seemed a bit pretentious.
Outstanding service, food and space.
One of the singular greatest dining experiences ever... and we've had alot.
We don’t know why the bad reviews, this place is awesome, ☺️ next time I will ask my pasta less cook but its handmade and thin as a paper, delicious
Funke, Beverly Hills – A Disappointing Dining Experience
I recently visited Funke with high expectations for an innovative culinary experience. Unfortunately, the restaurant left much to be desired on several fronts.
Food & Menu
The menu, unfortunately, falls flat in terms of creativity. While the pasta noodles themselves were outstanding—delicate and perfectly cooked—the accompanying Bolognese sauce was a major letdown. The sauce lacked depth, and the beef turned out dry despite attempts at seasoning, making it nearly impossible to salvage the dish. The steak, while not terrible, was simply okay, failing to provide any memorable dining moment. Overall, nothing in the food or dessert offerings really stood out, except for a surprisingly good serving of squash blossoms.
Ambiance & Seating
The layout of the restaurant also detracts from the overall experience. Avoid sitting in the upstairs booth near the walkway; it feels as if you're seated right in front of an overly energetic child on a plane that is constantly kicking your seat. The constant bumping by servers in that area disrupts any semblance of a relaxed meal.
Final Thoughts
Despite the promising elements like the exceptional pasta (noodles only) and squash blossoms, the uninspired menu and subpar execution of key dishes make it hard to understand the hype surrounding Funke. The culinary performance feels like a step sideways from their Mother Wolfe days, rather than an improvement. For now, I'll be exploring other dining options in Beverly Hills that offer a more imaginative and consistent experience.
Overall, Funke might be worth a visit if you're in the area, but temper your expectations. I think this is one and done type of experience. I do not understand what the hype is about.
