It was a middle-class restaurant in Japan, or even lower.
Since I didn't have a reservation and was a walk-in, I was shown to a seat outside the restaurant, which I guess can't be helped. However, the lighting of the food is important, and it didn't look delicious at first, and the ingredients were probably American-made.I learned a lot because I was convinced that seafood is definitely best eaten in Japan.
Of course, the service was below Japan, and I paid a superfluous tip that was unnecessary, resulting in a hefty bill.
This was a harsh comment, but since this is not Japan, it was just a personal complaint.

It's a thriving store. The interior and service are average. From the average person's perspective, it is a high-end store, but we recommend that you try it without having too high expectations.

Too Loud. Not a pleasant atmosphere like Nobu Bangkok.
A Complete Rip-Off – Treated Like Peasants After Spending Over $600. If I could give them zero stars, I would.
I’ve dined at Matsushia multiple times and have had their $250 omakase before, so I expected their Valentine’s Day special to be something elevated. Instead, it was a complete letdown and an absolute waste of money.
First, the setting—we were seated in a tented temporary structure in a parking lot. For a restaurant that prides itself on high-end dining, this felt incredibly cheap and took away from any sense of ambiance.
Then came the food, which was just flat-out bad. The oysters were fishy, the fish quality was noticeably lower than their usual omakase, and the noodles were overcooked. There was absolutely nothing special about this meal—despite it being advertised as a Valentine’s Day “special,” it was clear no effort went into making it unique or memorable. Even the dessert was uninspired and cheap, like an afterthought rather than a finale to an expensive meal.
The service was even worse. Our waitress never checked in on us, and when we politely voiced our concerns, she completely dismissed us. We asked to speak to the manager, but instead of even attempting to address our complaints, she charged our bill immediately. When we finally did speak to the manager, he was just as indifferent and flat-out refused to do anything.
To make matters worse, we spent well over $600 on this meal and were treated like peasants. No effort was made to ensure we had a great experience, and the staff acted like they couldn’t care less about our concerns. For a restaurant of this reputation to serve inferior food at an inflated price and provide horrible service is beyond unacceptable.
This was a total rip-off, and I will never be coming back. If you’re looking for a true omakase experience, save your money and go elsewhere.

I came here for a meal, but I didn’t get one because the weight was so long… I thought that I would get quick service because of the high reputation of the restaurant however, this was not what I got. Instead, I was forced to wait with my tummy rumbling as a hunger grew, and my plate stayed the same size… nothing… I would not come back here if you paid me five dollars. when I saw the look on the servers face after I had asked for the 10th time to be attended in service, they frowned.
The restaurant said they would give me the order in 10-15 minutes. They made me wait there and then gave me a dislike.

That dishonorable man working inside, I'm telling you. You already told me to wait for you outside. I was waiting outside and he tells me I'm 30 minutes late. Get out of here.

Mediocre sushi, and dismissive hosts
Service is great!
The sushi, et al, is exactly the quality you would expect.
The facility and the ambiance are…well let’s say eclectic…spartan to say the least!
I have felt more warm and comfortable at various Waffle Houses throughout the country!
It’s very much an “Emperor has no clothes” situation.
Most patrons are too pretentious to accept that the place is the equivalent to a double wide trailer home! (Possibly smaller).
I will still give it four stars…but in truth that’s in homage to the brand, not this particular location.
Hey, it’s LA!

Excellent sushi! Just take into consideration that the prices are not cheap.

Outstanding from start to finish
I will speak as Japanese who is working in LA.
Servers are not attentive at all. Food is mediocre, No wonder this place is not even selected by MICHELIN Guide and Top 50 although Nobu personally is taking cared of this place day and night.
Nothing special about their food. Food taste like some sort of OVERPRICED home-made cooking from 80s in Japan. No one would be happy to be served 80s style food at this price. First of all, no one who isn't fooled by the price will think it's delicious.
Same food would costs around $10 in Japan and taste much better.
Matsuhisa is whatever, anyone can make same flavor these days, so this place is nothing special but OVER PRICED and Dying Hype. OVER, WAY OVER PRICED. I wonder What sort of justification the management think that they can apply in their pricing strategies so they can charge such prices for these whatever dishes.
It's too harsh to think that a Japanese person will take 80,000 to 100,000 yen from the bill after going out to eat just by asking the name.
Nothing tastes good. The price structure has collapsed considerably. I'm not saying that the higher the price, the better. Are you thinking about management? Don't kid yourself.
This is almost a highway robbery using Japanese Cuisine name and deception to the customers.
Do not be an idiot, there are so much better restaurants around LA serving much better Japanese food.
It's not delicious so there's no need to go there.

Decline and fall!
Once an exceptional restaurant run by an amazing chef has declined into a fair to middling restaurant (and that’s me being more than fair).
I’ve been coming to Matsuhisa for the last 20 years, but on this occasion, I am unimpressed!
We arrive and are seated in a tent in the carpark. The tent had no décor, no ambience was cold, and I can only say could have been a service station for refugees’ with slightly better chairs to sit on.
We asked to be seated in the main restaurant to be told we would have to wait a very long time. We decided to order starters whilst we booked another sushi place elsewhere. We ordered 2 cut rolls and popcorn shrimp which we waited over 30 minutes for. I’ve had better sushi at supermarkets and the shrimp was average, not what I’ve had the pleasure of eating over the years.
I mentioned to the concierge how shocked I was to which his reply was it’s not a preference for everyone.
For those people whose preference is it to sit in a tent in a carpark and pay through the roof for mediocre food, they are clearly as deluded as the chef who thinks his name can carry widespread loyalty through this obvious decline!
For refence we went to KOI for the main course, where the service, food and ambience was amazing!
I highly recommend KOI. I DO NOT recommend MATSUHISA.
