Fine experience. Diverse menu with solid food. Would give a four until I saw a supplementary fee they added (5%) without our prior knowledge; tip automatically defaulted to 22%, which is fine but that shouldn’t be pushed for. I left with a sour taste in my mouth after this experience.

Santa Claus's first time eating Beech Plum Kitchen. The lemon ricotta buttermilk pancakes tops with blueberry lemon jam was phenomenal.

FABULOUS SERVICE ! My wife and I moved house to La Jolla recently after 3 years up in Orange County. Trust me there are only a couple of brekkie places in California that we rate as good as Beach Plum Kitchen. We first discovered this terrific brekkie spot about 7 years ago and have been here countless times since up until covid wreaked havoc on many eateries particularly the ones with mostly indoor dining. So after 3 years away we decided to come here for breakfast early on Sunday...they open at 7.30am. Remembering how busy it can get early on Sunday mornings I put us on the WAITLIST via Yelp. We parked out front at 7.35am and walked straight inside to be greeted by Ruben the manager who showed us to a table booth. Surprisingly we were among the first to arrive. No familiar faces in sight....Grant and Jenny the co-owners come in later we were told. A server named Hannah came to help us. FIRST UP ! We asked for 2 Lattes with 2% milk & hazelnut syrup but please not those huge cups we remember from years ago. Hannah said they could be made in much smaller cappuccino cups....yes thank you. The very first time we had breakfast here I ordered Machaca Hash with Hard Poached Eggs, Angel Biscuit & Strawberry Basil Jam and my wife chose Carnitas with Scrambled Eggs. THINGS HAVE CHANGED ! No more house braised Machaca on the menu and it's now Carnitas Hash instead of Carnitas with Scrambled Eggs. Of course my wife ordered the Carnitas Hash and I eventually decided on Traditional Eggs Benedict..hard poached eggs with Breakfast Potatoes. I also asked for a side of Fresh Fruit Medley and a tall fresh squeezed orange juice. Our lattes in the smaller cappuccino cups were brought out by Arista the sweet barista and tasted as good as the old days. Not long after our breakfast dishes arrived courtesy of server Jenessa....my eggs were hard poached to my satisfaction. My fresh squeezed orange juice tasted very good...Hannah did explain it is brought in. My wife liked her Carnitas Hash but nowhere near as much as when it was Carnitas with Scrambled Eggs....this was a lower budget presentation. The fresh fruit medley tasted okay. Things looked a little busier when it was time leave....that was good to see. THIS IS STILL A VERY GOOD BREKKIE SPOT !

PERFECT BREAKFAST ! My wife found this place a couple of weeks ago on a review site when we were looking for somewhere new to have a nice breakfast. Last Sunday the stars aligned and we arrived here around 8.30am with my wife's sister and our brother-in-law. To our surprise the restaurant was virtually filled to capacity. Luckily our wait was very short and we were shown to a large round table towards the rear of the place. A young lady named Lily who turned out to be one of the most extraordinary servers ever looked after us impeccably the whole time. Despite the restaurant being packed to the rafters inside and on the patio we noticed hardly any noise in our little alcove. We kicked things off with 3 Lattes with hazelnut syrup and a Chai Latte. Lily brought us glasses of chilled water without our asking with our 2 fresh Orange Juices. Apparently they use Cafe Virtuoso Coffee here ...it's a well known and highly regarded San Diego coffee bean roaster we have been dying to try. We ordered our breakfast dishes from the extensive and eclectic breakfast menu just as our brews were arriving. My creamy latte looked impressive and tasted oh so rich & satisfying ! This is a very good place to relax…not too noisy, soothing decor, plenty of natural light and unhurried service. Of course it was great to catch up with close family who we don't see often enough. At the perfect moment our breakfast orders arrived all at once and my goodness they were all generous serves. My house braised Machaca Hash with hard Poached Eggs, Angel Biscuit & Strawberry Basil jam tasted like nothing else I had ever had. Just sensational ! My wife has this thing about Carnitas for breakfast so her Carnitas & Scrambled Eggs made her very happy. My wife's sister kept it healthy and simple with a Breakfast Biscuit Sandwich which came with a Bowl of Fresh Fruit. Our brother-in-law loved his house roasted Corn Beef with Fried Eggs & Multigrain Toasted Bread. These guys are definitely doing things better than most of the competition with amazing service, sensational meals, top quality coffee and a classy atmosphere. I told Grant the co-owner / manager that we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. We'll be back soon !

We were on vacation for a week- we went here 4 times. It’s delicious- fresh- house made everything. We loved it and will be back next time we’re in town. Really good food and service!
PS. The negative reviews must be miserable humans- don’t buy it for a second- everything was spectacular.

Today I was seated and 27 minutes later nobody came up to even give waters to us. The staff keep chit chatting and not paying attention to their tables. The staff was actually giving dirty looks anytime I smiled at them in an attempt to get a waitress for some waters.
Finally I just left and never even had a chance to order after 27 minutes. I also noticed they changed the menu and got rid of the macaroni salad which is disappointing but not the end of the world.

We enjoyed two good meals, the Miga chorizo was so much better than the carnitas, which missed the flavor and warmth mark. Try the gluten free muffin for an added bread, it was soft but lacked flavor. A dirty chai is a nice way to get the meal started, very good flavor and just right. Our service was excellent, well done.

DISHONEST BUSINESS. I noticed there was a 5% supplemental fee added to our bill. I asked and was told that it was supposed to cover the increase in food cost. So instead of increasing the price on the menu, they added a supplemental fee without notifying the customers. How sneaky!
