Good food all around but atmosphere lacked from what the pictures show. Overall good place to eat

Live music on the patio was awesome on a Sunday evening.

Attended private party recently. Served outdoors. Service was perfect. Flatbread and crab cakes were great. Main course of Steak or Salmon were delicious. Deserts were too good! I’ll certainly go back for.a dinner with my wife or guests.

We ordered the salmon special and the Farfalle.
The salmon was burnt and cold. Astonishing you would give this to a client!! The waiter should have never brought that plate to the table
The farfalle was blended with cream .. (that’s it) no flavor.//we had to order a jalapeño to give it a kick.
Deserts were atrocious. Apple cake dry and tasteless . The warm brownie was baked the day before. Ice cream was cold
Very disappointing as we have been going there for many years. Need more quality control.
Cheers

Food here seems like a solid combination of tasty and healthy. With the live jazz music this place makes for a great date night spot. Our server was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. If you're interested check the website for details on happy hour ?

The food is consistently horrible and if it wasn’t for a friend insisting we go there I will never return, which is sad because we live so close.

Our company recently hosted a dinner at Black Rail Kitchen + Bar in Carlsbad, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish.

We opted for a buffet-style meal, and the spread was fantastic. The selection of dishes was both diverse and delicious, offering something for everyone. The food was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor, with each dish clearly prepared with care and attention to detail.

A special shout-out to Samantha, who went above and beyond to ensure our event ran smoothly. Her attention to detail, friendly attitude, and professionalism made all the difference in creating a seamless and enjoyable experience for our team.

The ambiance was also spot-on, providing a comfortable and inviting atmosphere perfect for a group gathering. The staff was attentive throughout the evening, making sure we had everything we needed.

Overall, Black Rail Kitchen + Bar exceeded our expectations, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to host our company dinner. I highly recommend it for any corporate event or special occasion!

Really nice decor and a live band playing jazzy music was a highlight!

Place is clearly understaffed as our waitress was serving about 10+ tables simultaneously. There were some delays getting our initial drink order and food order in and then delays getting the check.

Our table for two outside was DIRECTLY next to another table for two separated only by a thin wooden pillar. It was an awkwardly intimate dinner with the other couple who we did not know. Our table was also very wobbly due to being placed on stone pavers of varying height. Both demonstrate a lack of attention to detail.

Our food was bland. Sooooo bland. And no salt on the table. Potato fries were in desperate need of salt. As was the mashed potatoes on one of the dishes. Everything should be dialed up in the flavor department. I note that some reviews also state the food was TOO salty. My guess is this indicates turnover in the kitchen. So good quality will likely be inconsistent at best. When entrees are $35+ a piece this is really unacceptable.

The mixed gin drink my partner has was also sorely lacking in flavor. It didn’t taste bad. It just didn’t have any flavor other than slight sweetness. It was supposed to be grapefruit flavored.

As mentioned above, the music was nice. The relative proximity of tables to each other and the number of small children running about was not as nice.

Definitely willing to come back but this was an unfortunate swing and a miss on what had the potential to be a very nice evening.

Black Rail has grown to be one of our favorite restaurants as food is delicious, service is great, music and ambiance is wonderful! We always have a relaxing good time without feeling rushed!

We are regular guests. The food and service are consistently of high quality. We enjoy eating outdoors on the patio where it is always comfortable because of efficient heaters used when necessary. There is enough variety on the menu that everyone has multiple things they order so we don't get tired of the food. There is plenty of free parking which helps make it a neighborhood favorite.

We had a lovely time at Black Rail. I had no idea how large a space the restaurant occupies. We ate outdoor on their expansive patio. The two of us shared several appetizers...brussel sprouts, garlic shrimp and crab cakes. They were all excellent. We will definitely go back.
