We were only there to get a cocktail and oysters on the half shell.
The bartender was an attractive young lady, short haircut, super friendly.
She made our early evening fantastic.

Food was okay, I was expecting better for a seafood restaurant. The fish I ordered was burnt on the skin side which made the skin bitter. The rest of the items were fine but don’t wow me.
Service was a miss. Seated and water and bread were brought to the table with no silverware or plates. Nothing was brought out until we asked for it as our food arrived.
Atmosphere wasn’t anything special.

I stopped into Bluewater Grill for lunch and had a really enjoyable experience. The seafood was impressively fresh—exactly what you hope for in a coastal spot—and everything on the plate tasted clean and well-prepared. Their wine selection was surprisingly good for midday dining, with options that paired nicely without feeling too heavy for lunch. What really stood out, though, was the service. Our server was awesome: friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful with recommendations. They struck that perfect balance of being present without hovering, which made the whole meal feel relaxed and easy.Overall, Bluewater Grill is a great choice for a quality lunch by the water. I’d happily come back to try more of the menu.

Had the sweetest server in the world! Her name was Ana and she totally brightens up the room and is so so so hospitable!

Had a reservation so the wait was short. This is a busy place, I not sure why. Been going the since they opened. Once again I’m not sure why. The food can be very hit or miss. Last night, for instance,
It was a big miss. I started with oysters Rockefeller. I must say the worst I’ve ever had and I’ve had it all over; well over 50 times. 4 oysters ($19.50) under cooked, no bacon, no bread crumbs and half cooked leaf spinach. They did have cheese.
My main course was the fishermans platter: 2 smallish sea scallops, 2 (16-20) shrimp, two pcs previously frozen fish. With French fries…the fries were by far the best.($30.00). My wife had the pan seared salmon, which she said was alright.it was all of 4-5 oz, skin on. Not the way she likes it . The server, Caden, never mentioned it. Come to think of it, service is now 2 stars. He also had an unfriendly air about him. I guess he was having a bad day. My favorite side the scalloped potatoes was different, not in a good way.
We can’t see why we ever have a reason to return. They will remain busy. There are only 2 full menu fish restaurants in the Carlsbad area, too bad.

We came here 3 years ago and loved it, so we came back. We were a little disappointed this time. The clam chowder was good but the shrimp and scallops with pesto cream sauce, not so much... 2 small scallops and 4 shrimp. Not worth the price.

Great food and service. Very busy for a Sunday night. Our server was Shawna and she was awesome. Lots of dining options and great bar!
Cool totally casual place. Staff was friendly but food wasn't all that great. I got the Chioppino. On a scale of 1-10 it was a solid 4. The sauce was regular tomato sauce poured over the small fish, shrimp etc. Wife's fish was average. Pretty pricey for what ya get. Seems more of a lunch place to me
We had the scallops, which were delicious . We go to Blue Water quite often, it is definitely a neighborhood gem.
My husband and I enjoyed the happy hour and dinner in the bar area. We had oysters, ahi tuna, Sand dabs and Barramundi for dinner. Fish was excellent - very fresh and nicely presented. We come to Carlsbad every couple of months for the seafood and are never disappointed! Service and ambiance was excellent. Thank you for a very pleasant evening.

Our table was ignored for the first 25 minutes after being seated. I had to get up and ask a group of servers chit chatting for help. Everything was good after that.
After being seated,we were not approached by anyone for over 10 minutes. based on the other restaurants in the same 2 block area, this restaurant is short staffed. The table next to us was served bread twice even though we requested it from 3 different servers before receiving it. Cigarette smoke from employees outside was another problem. Guest near window had to close shutters. Had to flag down server to do final payment. This place is good if you want marginal service and fair food.
We have noticed the restaurant going down hill over a year or so. The chicken this time was like leather to cut, and ended up leaving it. Won't be returning any time soon!!
Tried the octopus appetizer. Sauce and potatoes were tasty but octopus was very chewy and not cooked to my satisfaction. Sand dabs were very good. Went on wine Wednesday and got 50% off. Good wine selection. Bread excellent. Parking can be a challenge on Wednesdays due to Farmers Market across the street. I eat here regularly and would recommend it to others. Outdoor dining is available.
Great rainbow trout. Ahi Tuna was okay but not great. Gluten free wasn't as easy as it could be.
