My family and I went to Carlsbad Aquafarm to eat fresh oysters. They are huge, fresh, and taste amazing. The best oysters we’ve ever had! The hot sauce that they sold complimented the oyster so well!We didn’t go on the oyster farm tour but will definitely book a tour next time. Great place to visit with lovely people!

Interesting & Insightful tour led by Pete. Definitely learn a lot more! Would be better if we could have the chance to see the rope being pulled out or some oyster sorting on the spot. We had fun shucking the oysters, they were delicious & the condiment provided were great! The hot sauce & the vinegar one! Thanks Pete & Team.

I came for the oysters. Had to order them online and picked up 3 dozen. My only regret was not getting more. Extremely fresh and delicious! Drove back home to Los Angeles and they didn’t last an hour of getting home. Highly recommend this spot! They also do tours and stuff. Check them out!

We ordered 3 dozen oysters online and called the Aquafarm for some help with our order. The person on the phone was friendly & very helpful as to availability & selection of the varieties. The oyster were marvelously fresh & delicious. I often visit a couple of oyster farms in Mendocino so was really happy to discover the Carlsbad Aquafarm. We enjoyed them so much, we decided to order 6 dozen for an event. Unfortunately, these were very gritty and we had to spend almost 3 hours scrubbing them & removing the crumbly edges on the shells. Even with the prepping, pieces of shell got in while shucking. Also a few were so oversized, they bent the oyster knife. I wish the farm would have rinsed & tumbled the oysters more thoroughly before selling them. It was wonderful to be able to get farm fresh oysters that morning to serve to our guests but due to results and time & labor intensity to manually clean so many, I do not know whether I would repeat this for a large event.

Visited Aquafarm in Carlsbad last weekend and finally got to try their Baja Oysters. Pre-ordered two dozen since it was the only option left. Upon arrival, a friendly gentleman packed them in a bag filled with ice. The oysters were alright, although I did encounter a couple that had an unexpected strong odor and an unpleasant taste that caught me off guard - thankfully, only my wife witnessed my reaction. Planning to explore other oyster options when they go back in stock. Overall, a decent experience, and looking forward to trying more from Aquafarm in the future.

Overall good experience. However, they did not have any oysters they are farming. The best part of the tour was the tour guide.I forgot her name but she was just very friendly and knowledgeable. Her presentation was spot on with various interesting topics and bits of humor thrown in made the experience more enjoyable. However, I was expecting to actually see the oysters they grow. Maybe even pull some out from the ocean? But that did not happen. How do you not have any oysters to show when you're running an oyster farm tour? Sure, i got to see mussels and wasabi they were growing. But the main point of the tour should have been looking at the oysters they grow and trying them on the spot.We were given 6 oysters from a different farm per person. The oysters were pretty good.

Super cool place!! My family did the tour which lasted about an hour long. Our tour guide Kylie was so animated and funny and clearly passionate about what the facility does. We learned so much about how the oysters and mussels are farmed, how the facility runs everything sustainably and gives back to the ecosystem, and how they achieve high quality products for consumers. This is a small local business and I was super proud to be there to support it! The tour also included a really fun touch tank (had no idea scallops can move the way they do!) and ended in learning how to shuck fresh oysters and being able to eat 6 fresh ones, which was so fun and tasty. The oysters are on the briney side, so may not be to everyone's taste, but still fun even if you don't enjoy eating them! What a hidden gem in Carlsbad!

We finally had a reason and purpose to go visit The Carlsbad Aquafarm as a surprise for my wife's birthday. She (we) love to eat oysters and why not a better way to surprise her on her birthday with a trip down south to Carlsbad. I made a reservation for her exact birthday and we arrived in Carlsbad 30 minutes early which was perfect to be able to take some pictures ahead of schedule of the tour. David was our tour guide and we could not have asked for a better guide. David was so knowledgeable and he really educated us about the aqua farm and all that they farm there. After the tour, he gave us such a good shucking lesson and it truly made it easier to shuck and open the oyster's. The only setback that we had was their inventory got depleted due to the Thanksgiving weekend. Because of that, we could not purchase anything to take home. I highly recommend this fun and educational plus delicious tour.

We recently had the pleasure of doing the weekend farm tour and tasting at Carlsbad Aquafarm, and I can't say enough about this place – it's a true gem for seafood enthusiasts! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff who were eager to share their passion for oysters. The farm tour was not only educational but also an immersive experience that left me in awe of their sustainable practices and commitment to preserving the environment. The highlight, of course, was the hands-on exploration of the touch tanks. I got up close and personal with a variety of shellfish, including the biggest, most beautiful mussels, oystersand others I've ever seen. The oyster shucking demonstration was a real treat, and shucking my own oysters with a breathtaking view of the lagoon was an experience I won't forget. The provided tools, lemons, hot sauce, and water - everything we needed. And let's not forget the star of the show – the oysters themselves! The generous tasting of six oysters was an absolute delight. They were undoubtedly the biggest, freshest and most flavorful oysters I've ever had the pleasure of savoring. Each one was a burst of oceanic goodness, and it's safe to say I won't be looking for oysters anywhere else.Carlsbad Aquafarm is a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates sustainable seafood and a unique, hands-on experience. The dedicated team, stunning lagoon views, and, of course, the incredible oysters make it a five-star experience all the way. I can't recommend this place enough – you won't be disappointed!

Getting up close with an array of shellfish, from the biggest mussels to a variety of shellfish of different sizes. The shucking demo was both educational and entertaining, and having the chance to shuck my own oysters while overlooking the picturesque lagoon was a highlight. The taste of those farm-fresh oysters was unparalleled, each one a burst of the sea's finest flavors. The team's dedication to sustainability and the environment is truly commendable. It's evident in the quality of their produce and the care they put into their practices. This visit has spoiled me for oysters elsewhere. Thank you for the experience Carlsbad Aquafarm! It is locally owned and operated by Carlsbad resident, Thomas Grimm. I like the fact that they are ecologically friendly, which means they are preserving the coastal environment by sustainably growing their shellfish. We booked the weekday farm tours and oyster tastings ($40/person) and the whole experience lasts an hour. Unfortunately we were stuck in LA traffic that me missed the majority of the tour. To top it off, there were no parking available. We had to park on the street on the opposite side and walked over. It was a dangerous cross but thankfully we didn't get run over. So we basically missed the guided farm discovery walk. However, we got to partake in the shucking class (10 minutes), where the oyster shucking demonstration led by their experienced tour guide. Afterwards we got some hands on and it wasn't too bad. The last 20 minutes of the tour was the generous oyster tastings where each of us got 6 oysters to shuck and taste. I must warn you to be careful with the hot sauce. The opening to the bottle is not your typical hot sauce bottle where there's a small opening. I was not paying attention and a bunch of it came out. The hot sauce was pretty hot where everywhere it touched it definitely left me saying ooh wee. We were lucky we booked their last evening sustainable seafood tasting! The set up was pretty cute. Refer to photo. For this event we each got 3 Lunas oysters to shuck. Next on the menu was each got a bowl of curry mussels, each got a grilled Kraken oyster in their BBQ sauce with fried garlic. Lastly, we each got grilled scallop. Everything was delicious, however, the cook got too happy with the salt shaker! I was glad we got to experience their last evening sustainable seafood tasting. Too bad they're not doing it anymore. By the way, if you want bottled beverages such as sparkling Topo Chico, coconut water, or "authentic" Coca Cola, they're $4 each.

These oysters are the best oysters I've ever had. The tour was incredibly informative and it was really fun shucking the oysters at the end! Kylie was a great tour guide - very articulate and open to questions. Highly recommend coming here!
