Only a few outside picnic tables in a busy area in State Street. Coaster Station is directly behind with lots of shops, restaurants, coffee within walking distance. Definitely stop in if you’re craving creamy deliciousness.

We accidentally discovered this ice cream place when we were in Carlsbad two years ago. And we long to come back with every trip. The vibe is definitely different between this Handel’s and the one I visited in Scottsdale. Service here is quick as there are at least seven windows and the cones are huge! I had the black cherry. My husband had the mint chocolate. We decided we wouldn’t come back every night as that would just be too indulgent . Every other night looks like we’ll be having handles ice cream during our vacation.

Hands down the best ice cream I've had in decades. This place is highly underrated. The ice cream is perfect, the staff is so polite, and the price is right. We still can't agree if it's pronounced handles or han-dells but we don't even care, we just want more of this ice cream.
