The restaurant was CLOSED. A sign on the window said it had been sold. After a little research I learned this happened awhile ago. Why was my reservation confirmed? This was very disturbing. Doesn't Open Table know anything about the restaurants they work for?
Early New Year's Eve dinner with 2 other couples. Everyone enjoyed the food and all ordered different dishes. They were very accommodating to wife's allergy list and easily created a great evening Thank you
We are local customers and have dined here before. After our experience on December 30th, we will not return. We had a reservation for five to celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary, clearly noted in the booking. Dishes are priced at over $50 per person. Throughout the evening, we were polite, patient, and did not make any special requests. After being seated and ordering, our table received virtually no service. Over nearly two hours, neither our assigned server nor the manager checked on us even once. We were never asked how the food was, whether we needed anything, or if everything was satisfactory. This was not due to the restaurant being busy. What was particularly striking was the contrast with surrounding tables. Other guests were treated above and beyond: frequent check-ins, conversation with the manager, prompt service, and visible attention. We observed this repeatedly while our own table was consistently ignored. The disparity in treatment was unmistakable. When we requested the check through another staff member, it took approximately 30 minutes to arrive. A neighboring table received a celebratory dessert with a candle, while our anniversary went completely unacknowledged. The food was good. The service was absent. At this price point, that is unacceptable. This restaurant lost returning local customers due to how unevenly and unprofessionally we were treated.
A delightful experience from the gracious greeting on arrival to check out. The subdued atmosphere with the impeccable service and outstanding meals was a pleasure. The scallops were perfect as was the sea bass as was wine. We will return soon.
Excellent service, excellent food! Our only issue was a couple of loud kids at the next table; we should have asked to be moved.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner on the patio. It was the day after thanksgiving, so very quiet which we liked. The service was fantastic, and the food was delicious.
NOISY ! We dined at Paon in the evening on a Saturday night expecting a classy, peaceful evening. However, the ambiance was akin to being in a McDonald's. Our table was sticky and wobbly. Our menus and clothing were sticking to it. The noise from 2 tables with loud children was also very irritating. The other tables with just adults were noisy too. Maybe everyone was just trying to talk over all of the noise in the room. Mind you, we come from a large energetic family and a spirited dining room usually does not bother us. The restaurant really should consider seating groups with young children who are running all over and yelling in a less disruptive section of the establishment. And maybe they could do something else to mediate the sound issues in the dining area. Our waiter had zero personality and did not ever offer a smile, but his service was prompt. No warm greeting at all. Totally flat affect. Very unusual for a waiter. Our beef carpaccio was tasteless, but the salad above it was drenched with an acid vinagrette that was overpowering. The salmon dinner we had was absolutely delicious. So happy to end with this dish. This restaurant looks like it could have great promise, but needs some attention to these matters.
At the last minute, we decided to give Paon a try. Half of our party had to try the scallops. I settled for a yummy salad with shrimp. The wine list is amazing. Something for everyone. There were two large parties coming in at the same time. I think our waiter was the only one working all the tables. That's the only bummer part that I can come up with.
We are well-traveled, and as Italians, we love good food. Recently moving to this area, we have been trying a variety of restaurants. The food and presentation are wonderful, except for the gnocchi. The sauce was delicious however, just for the chef's information, they were like rocks, so hard I could not eat them, but the sauce was so good I used my bread to finish the dish. He is better off buying the gnocchi.
Ivan was fantastic! Always so accommodating and informative. He suggested a Fish Appetizer that my friend just loved, knows what I like , service is impeccable, etc...it's always great to go and eat such delicious food. Wish there were open at lunch but now I might try Happy Hour. Mahalo Nui Loa Ivan for such Outstanding Service and Paon's for such wonderful food‼️Aloha, Suszi🌺

Beautiful atmosphere & delicious food! Service was excellent. Chris was our server she was attentive & curated the perfect dining experience for us.
Everything was just perfect!!! The food was amazing; the wait staff was knowledgeable and the ambiance charming!
Here on vacation, and thoroughly enjoyed Paon. It was a Tues nite, and there was not much of a crowd, but we would definitely return on a future trip to C'bad. Hubby said the duck cassoulet was the best ever - skin nice and crisp; meat tender; beans well done! My lamb chops were excellent. A delightful evening.
We have had dinner at Paon many times over the years and it never disappoints. The food is always delicious and the service is terrific. If you're in Carlsbad, Paon should be on your list of stops for dinner.
Ivan was a very professional waiter. We celebrated my wife's 85 birthday in her favorite birthday restaurant. Always good.
