The place has fresh biscuits and blueberry muffins daily. Carlos was our server and took great care of us. All the staff here provided excellent customer service. The food had some of the freshest ingredients. We will come again in the future.

I am honestly so disappointed. Food was incredible, however, service was awful. We were given 2 waters for our 4 person party right when we got sat and then didn’t see a server for 20 minutes. We ordered food right away and food came out quicker than the two other waters we had requested. I don’t know if they were short staffed or what was going on with the FOH but it really ruined our experience. Food came out hot and fresh and again was really delicious, but it wasn’t worth not being taken care of at all. Atmosphere was bright, however, it was absolutely freezing in the dining room with fans going. The bathrooms were in awful shape. Puddles of urine in the men’s bathroom and looked more like a gas station.

Carlos is the most amazing waiter we’ve had. He always treats us with respect and makes us feel special each time we come in. Even when the restaurant is extremely busy he handles his tables so well, making sure that all have what they need with a little extra attention to detail to make sure it is a memorable experience. The food of course is phenomenal which is a direct compliment to the chefs. Thank you all!

My daughter loves their smoke salmon Benedict. The way they cook the eggs was amazing! I also love my omelette.

Broken Yolk is a favorite café for our whole family, especially my husband. Why? Consistency. Consistently, we are greeted with smiles-Warm and Welcoming!!!! The restaurant has been remodeled twice that I can remember which means the owners care to keep the café updated. It's strange that customers would be so shallow that the interior effects their dining experience. You'll be impressed at the interior décor. Food is delicious and quality fine, bonus quantity is above average. I never leave hungry after a serving of food from Broken Yolk La Costa. Service is above average. From the minute we arrive, someone is there to greet us, and welcome with a verbal Hello. A hostess or employee no matter their position will walk you to your preferred seating. Bus person brings water or coffee right away with a smile and words to make you feel happy you chose this place to eat your breakfast. Considering there are a multitude of breakfast places to choose from--WHY Broken Yolk? Because of the overall treatment. Now the servers are multitaskers too. They seem to all pitch in to make sure the customers are happy. In the day and age, that seems to be difficult. PEOPLE-Customers suck. Our society are a bunch of grumpy complaining people that are never quite satisfied. Well in a busy restaurant satisfaction will not always be 100%-get off your high horse people--this is not Nordstrom's. Weekends are their busy days--give these people a break. Waiters and waitresses do their very best. My husband is a regular, I accompany occasionally. A shout out to Andrea and Carlos for always going above and beyond to make us feel like this is a breakfast "Cheers."

Great place for breakfast and brunch. Jahne gives great table service, is super nice, and makes the experience great. Love it!

Kid-friendliness: Jahne was super fun, and interacted directly with our son, who is 5. Our son had a great time ordering his steak and eggs and loved that Jahne was surprised he could eat it all!

Thank you so much. My husband was in Carlsbad for a business conference and he didn't like the breakfast at the resort and it was his birthday. I wanted to surprise him and found Broken Yolk. I am in Atlanta and after checking their menu, found something he might like. I called to confirm the order and they were so sweet and helpful. Waffle delivered and he loved it. Hubby then asked to have a waffle delivered every day he was there. Without fail, same delicious waffle, same great service.
Thank you for helping me from across the country feed my sweet hubby. Broken Yolk will be his go to when he is in Carlsbad. ❤️

Broken yolks prices are through the roof. I Ordered a kids meal (one egg two sausage Link ) and a kids smoothie and it was $25. I tried to cancel the order online and it wouldn’t go through so I called three times and nobody answered. When they charged my credit card $15 for a cancellation fee! I was shocked but got it refunded through my credit card.. I also. called/left msg before I posted this review and it’s been a four days and I still don’t have a callback. Don’t waste your time. Companies have got to wake up and see that consumers can’t pay these costs! Make sure you notify the FTC of all your complaints on credit card charges that are unauthorized. That’s the only way for them to stop charging junk fees disguised as loss of product. it still doesn’t make sense to me how they started the order so quick when they don’t have anybody available to answer the phone.

Okay; it's a clean and bright chain restaurant that serves breakfast. That covers the atmosphere. Although the air conditioning was cranked so hard we had to sit outside; if there wasn't any outdoor seating we'd have left. And we probably should have anyway....

There were only a handful of customers so the staff was fairly attentive, although nobody asked us how the food was.

The food was definitely hit and miss and miss. My wife ordered the salmon avocado toast and it was absolutely fine, but that's probably because it was assembled from premade ingredients rather than cooked in-house. My stepdaughter got the chicken fried steak breakfast but only ate a few bites; the steak was edible and the gravy slightly less so. I ordered the country skillet (without gravy) and got back a mess. The veggies, potatoes, and ham were all undercooked; the eggs were slightly overcooked and covered with barely melted cheese.

I spoke with the staff afterwards but there was no manager available. There was no attempt to put things right. I pointed out that for the time and the money spent at the Broken Yolk we would have been better off going to the Bruegger's Bagels right next door.

Edited to add: I previously and mistakenly posted this review for the Oceanside location. After double-checking the map this location (La Costa) is definitely the Broken Yolk Cafe my family dined at.

The food and service were great! Just wish overall they didn't use soybean oil so I could have enjoyed so much more. The Mimosa flight is strong- not a good juice to champagne ratio.

Dietary restrictions: Not so great with soy allergies.
