Ive never left a 1 star review but this is justified. Never, ever, spend money here. I spent $24 plus tax and tip, because I had to order from a bar rather than the restaurant (*total $30) for a single lobster roll.
Nothing about what I received was a lobster roll. It was a piece of bread with a spoon full at most of lobster, then a pile of veggies. $30!?!?!?!
I have no problem spending money on good food, I do it daily. This was the equivalent of trying to buy pot but getting a bag of oregano. I dont smoke, but its a fair comparison.
Zero lobster. Absolutely a waste of money. While posting this I saw they have a 3.3 stars review total.
This shop should be shut down immediately. I live here and this isn't just our community, its where tourists who visit might accidents stop by. Horrible representation of our area and the quality of food. Absolute rip off. Anywhere from the oceanside harbor to the san ysidro border will serve you a better lobster roll.
DO NOT SPEND MONEY HERE!!!!

Walk up, take out lobster stand. Quick, easy, and delicious seafood.

I don’t think I’ve ever really had a lobster roll or lobster mac & cheese. So I really don’t have anything to compare it to. But I have had lobster many times and mac & cheese many times and I will tell you, this plate did not disappoint. The lobster is very sweet and tender, not chewy at all. The mac & cheese was very cheesy and delectable, really enjoyed eating that.

It’s a little on the pricey side, as lobster usually is. If I ever want to splurge again, and I’m in the area, I will come back.

Not sure what the bad reviews are about. The lobster rolls here were some of the best my wife and I have had. The Carlsbad Lobster tacos were also delicious. Same with the tots. Food came out quickly. And even though the restaurant is QSR, but attached to a bar/restaurant - the service was awesome. Thank you. We'll be back!!!

Beautiful location and fun backyard vibe, but the food was a letdown. Surf n turf tacos were soggy with mediocre meat. The OG roll was drenched in butter, making the bread soggy too. Coleslaw tasted old. Tater tots were the only highlight—crispy and well-seasoned—but cost an extra $4. No servers (which is fine), but $60 for two disappointing plates was not worth it. Great atmosphere, but sadly, the food doesn’t live up to it.

Very disappointed…we found this gem 3 years ago, and having grown up along the Oregon coast, I know good fish and chips, and 3 years ago, this place served, hands down, the best fish and chips I ever had. On our recent visit to Southern California, we went out of our way to eat here. First warning sign should have been the name change. The fish and chips were not great at all. The fry cook needs a course on deep fryer use as the fish was way over fried…I didn’t know cod could dry out, but it was so dry and difficult to eat. It was nearly inedible.
My suggestion would be for new owners to go to previous owners and beg them for their fish and chips supplier and recipe and begin serving what used to be served at this location.
I would never go back for these fish and chips again…
Atmosphere and service were fantastic, but not worth it if you’re looking for great seafood on the coast.

The meal was amazing!! The chicken and fries were both fresh and crispy. But the sauce was what made this meal phenomenal. Perfectly zesty with a hint of spice! 👌🏼
It was a clean environment, easy to order, and very nice staff!
Definitely will go back!

My son got the lobster roll, and he got extra pieces of shell as a bonus....

Avoid it if can. Super greasy food. The service is poor and almost rude. Walk or drive further you will find better quality food and better service.

The name says it all "Trap". Paid $19 for two very small pieces of fish and about 1/2 pound of fries. Wish I read the reviews before I ate there. What a waste of money.

Got a the og . Now I'm from nyc, so maybe that's why I know better having shedded lobster in a roll is crazy and kinda disrespectful . And why was the lobster meat all red. It's not the seasoning at all. Tasted like they added snow crab or some type of something... I didn't even finish it cause it had shell in it . They offered to make another but it wasn't tasty at all, but the french fries are very good. I feel like I wasted 100 dollars I was so excited to try it i got 2 big mistake. Never again. Forgot to take the picture of the shell, but they saw it.

We ordered lunch at the Trap Shack during a recent visit to Carlsbad. We ordered the West Coast Lobster Roll and a lobster roll sans bun because of a gluten-free need for one person.

Opening time was 11 am, but they actually opened at about 11:15 am. We ordered and the items were made promptly. The West Coast Lobster Roll was quite good with large chunks of lobster claw and knuckle meat. This was a very pleasant surprise. For the gluten-free version, the portion sizes given in the cups were quite small even though we paid the price of a regular roll. They could be more generous in their serving sizes.

The staff were friendly, if very laid back, which is fine. They understood the need for a gluten-free choice. It would be great if they could add a couple of gluten-free items to the menu.
