What a beautiful coffee shop in the town. The coffee and ice cream are amazing! The staff is always super friendly, highly recommended!
The coffee is subpar, matcha is sugar water, they dont let you sample anything in a gelato store and the people behind the counter are arrogant and dont know how to handle customers. Avoid at all costs.
Before getting into it, I’m prepared to receive a lovely smack back from the owners as previously shown in other negative reviews. However, let’s get into it.
Firstly, the brothers seem very nice and friendly, but there are a few issues in my opinion. They are very quick to let you know that the gelatos are all flown in from Italy weekly, however as someone who’s been to Italy 10+ times, you can try every flavor of gelato before committing to one. Not so at Cafe dal Mare. No tasting allowed. This is actually what caused me to write a review (despite the numerous signs around the shop asking you to leave google reviews). The flavor I chose (recommend by the shop) was not very good in my opinion. Had I tried it, I would’ve chosen another flavor but instead I wasted $14+. Basically, 2 coffees, 2 scoops of gelato, and a piece of cake, which was said to taste like a cloud was in fact exactly that…light and nearly flavorless…all for a whopping $45.
Overall, I think if you’re going to charge that much for gelato, at least let the customer taste some flavors and choose based on the samples so they don’t waste their money.
Run by three brothers which you can see from their portrait behind of the counter. The youngest one with the hat was so sweet. He greeted us and took our order, made a fantastic affogato with tiramisu Gelato. The pistachio slice was delicious. Will come back :)
Pistachio and chocolate + hazelnut pastry is one of the best I have had. It was soo good that I couldn’t resist coming back the next day. Even the Spumoni gelato was delicious. It is must try in Carmel.
Best espresso & dessert in Carmel!! Thank you. Wonderful dark roast espresso, owned by local brothers who grew up here. Great conversation! Don’t miss it.
Awesome stop for a coffee and sweets
Lovely fresh pistachio layered cake. Light, fresh, authentically tasty. Several people stopped by for fresh piped chocolate beignets. Small shop with cute woven loveseats, would have loved to move the furniture outside!
They have really big portion size for gelato, limited falvors but very creamy. I really like the coffee falvor it was very good and not too sweet.
Although it is a small place, the managers make it very organized, the desserts look delicious and fresh. I loved the coffee

The coffee isn’t great. The desserts seem fine. The gentleman is very kind and serves great icecream and dessert. But I wouldn’t go in for coffee.
Do you make your own pastries. Do you know if they use any seed oils in them like canola. Vegetable. Or sunflower. Etc…. I’m asking here so other allergic people know as well.
Wow, such a stand out cafe in Carmel! The oat milk cappuccino was made well, and the pistachio ricotta cake (recommended by Andrew) was out of this world! We also went for passion fruit gelato, which was incredibly smooth. Andrew was so helpful and attentive, and even shared some delicious cookies to sample and hazelnut cake in celebration of our wedding this week! All of the items were superb, and it was endearing to see the brothers running this place with so much love and attention.
Good coffee, good service.
Recommend affogato.
We love our lil' neighborhood cafe! Excellent coffee, delicious desserts (highly recommend the pistachio cake), but my favorite is to order an affogato with vanilla gelato - and no shame, I like it with two scoops of vanilla and two shots of espresso :)
