Disappointment. Food was meh at best. Two of us had Scallops Gulf &Prawns ($33) and agreed it was terrible. The 2 small prawns were so tough, like leather! While it was supposed to have spicy curry cream sauce over fettuccine, it was bland like they forgot to add curry spices and salt. I’m not even a big salt fan, but it was tasteless. The 2 scallops were good. My husband ordered the Almond Seabass ($44). It was served over instant (most likely)mashed potatoes with a couple of cabbage pieces. It was okay, just nothing you should pay for. Our fourth companion had the Alaskan Black Cod over arugula. She substituted vegetables for the starch. It was a delicious dish with a pleasantly surprising amount of tasty vegetables. It was seasoned and cooked well. Unfortunately, one good dish out of four means I can only give the place 2 stars. The setting looks like the old wooden benches and tables of days past. The bathrooms are pretty yucky. I’ll leave it there. The host was an amazingly chipper and kind man, the guy who pours water was very friendly and attentive, but the waitress looked a little over-worked and unhappy. Flat. Maybe they need to pay her more so she can cut back 1 day of work. The other people were great, though. The ginger salsa was delicious! We parked in a parking garage a few doors down from the restaurant for $15 for 1 1/2 hours. All told, it’s just a 2 star rating and nothing you want to remember.

We love this place when we’re in carmel! The chips and Ahi pasta are the best. The service is always amazing and every waiter/host makes you feel right at home. The decor is unique and homey. Highly recommend for a visit!

I don't mind paying an exorbitant amount if the food tastes great. Was disappointed with their food prep and presentation.

Food is original with Asian flare...my salmon was covered in sesame seeds and baked...very moist ..with lime cream sauce...added lots of interest and tang...not overwhelming...they have farmed abalone ..best I have eaten in years...a rare treat

We had a delicious salmon dinner on Thanksgiving weekend 2024. The owner, Honza, was an excellent host and quite entertaining. Our waiter, Tony, was very attentive and provided excellent service. We honestly went to flying fish in Carmel because of the owners responses to the bad reviews. Service right off the bad was the best ever. On to the food and drinks did disappoint. We weren’t sure which wine so they actually brought some tastes to help us. Amazing service, amazing food, clean, great feel, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. We will be back soon

We were in the area for a short vacation and had dinner at Flying Fish on a recommendation from a local gallery owner. Loved the food and the service was top notch. The host, Richard, was very helpful and friendly - and also went above and beyond. After we left, he called to tell me that I left my sunglasses at the table. When I told him we may not be able to get back for them since we were flying out the next day he offered to deliver them (on his bike!) to where we were staying the next morning! Outstanding service, Richard!

Had a wonderful dinner with my daughter last night. The food was fantastic. Daily special of calamari fried to perfection, yummy California tower, fettuccini with scallops and shrimp and their signature sea bass. Very attentive and friendly staff completed a perfect dining experience.

Mind blown. This meal is 1 of 2 meals that I will remember forever within the US. The owner is kind, welcoming, and sweet. The service is friendly and attentive. The food & flavor medleys is out of this world. We had a wonderful little anniversary dinner in Carmel at this gem. This is our first choice to dine in Carmel on every visit. Thank you for a great experience! We absolutely cannot wait to go back in a few months. We will be recommending this to all of all our friends and on social media. Much success to you!

My friend and I walked here from our hotel. I had my dog in a stroller and it was a bit difficult getting him down the stairs inside restaurant. The gentleman (host?) was awesome and generously offered to carry my furbaby upstairs when we were finished with our dinner. The staff are so very kind, friendly and accommodate every request. We had the tempera battered prawns and vegetables. I also had their appetizer special of breaded fish cakes. Yummy! They served with the best dipping sauce ever!
They were kind and placed us at a table where my dog would be comfortable. Extremely wonderful staff and food! If in Carmel you need to try the Flying Fish Grill.

Edit: The owner responded to my Yelp review saying he was laughing at it. That level of unprofessionalism is surprising and looks like a pattern of behavior.

Food: The seafood clay pot was pretty lackluster compared to the almost $80 price tag. The hotpot was only warm and it was hard to fully cook the fish. It wasn't until we were halfway done that a server tried to turn it up. There was also inclusion of a garlic creme sauce with the hotpot which seemed strange.

Service: There is a 3.5% surcharge for paying with card which was unexpected but seems common in Carmel.

Service was slow. When asked to come back in 5 minutes we did not have a server check on us again. 20 minutes later we had to get up and ask someone for the check. 10 minutes later we finally received it.

Ambiance: The room was very dim. Also, some screws were sticking up from the wood crossbars above the booths. The plates need a refresh as some of the designs were almost completely worn away.

Would not come again.
