We had a dinner in this restaurant during our short stay in Carmel at the end of January; overall - the atmosphere, the service, the wine list were quite authentic French. I love France and French cuisine, I missed the frog legs very much, here they were good but tiny, more like they are in Chinese restaurants; French frog legs should be bigger and have more meat. Classic escargot seemed too spicy for me; the onion soup had a subtle burnt taste, looks like the onion was too fried. I gave my 4* for the overall experience, but there is definitely a lot to improve.

A wonderful all-around experience with the long-term owner/chef still working in the kitchen.

We enjoyed a truly delightful dinner at L'Escargot last night. The restaurant is a charmingly quaint and serene space—exactly the kind of atmosphere we appreciate. It was our first time visiting this area since moving to California, and the experience left us eager to explore it further, as well as to return to L'Escargot to sample more of their menu. The service was impeccable; our water glasses were attentively refilled without request, and each course arrived promptly without feeling rushed. This lovely little establishment is, without question, a 10/10. We very much look forward to dining here again.

We had the Dover Sole and Scallops specials, both were wonderful. Our waiter, Sean, was the best! Very knowledgeable and attentive.

We love Freddy. He is such a fun professional server, and of course the food and drink is fantastic. Top 5 favorite locally, for sure.

This is one of our favorite places in Carmel, and one of the oldest restaurants in the village. There are always a number of daily specials. I chose the cassoulet special, which was amazing: filled with duck and pork, with a crispy crust. It was very rich, and the leftovers tasted better the next day. We also had the escargot and the French onion soup. The service was very attentive. All in all, another great meal. We will be back the next time we are in Carmel.

We really enjoy eating here. The service is excellent, the food is very good. It has an old style elegance. Very nice menu selections and a nice wine list. The servers are attentive, not overly so and very helpful in guiding wine selection and food recommendation. We walked past this restaurant many times in the past and were really glad when we finally made a reservation. Now we eat there every time we are in town!

Our go to spot each time we are in town - the escargot and sweet breads are perfect every time! Love this neighborhood gem!

It was simply perfect. Great service, we weren't rushed through dinner. We could easily carry a conversation, no problem hearing each other. Quite a charming place.

Not good at all. Very disappointed in such an expensive dinner. The escargot was good but the duck was bland and the skin was chewy on the duck breast and not flavorful at all. The sauce was fair and vegetables mushy. My husbands salad was a very small version of a Caesar salad. For $$$$ it should have been excellent. Our server was good. There was only one other couple in the restaurant and not busy at all.

Beautiful ambience with a nice european touch! Food and wine were spectacular and service spot on!

Excellent food! The best I had in Carmel. The beef Wellington was a treat and the wines by the glass were so well selected. I will absolutely be returning. And the service was the perfect level of attentiveness - absolutely amazing.

Excellent food and service. Classic French with lots of butter attentively served. Everything was delicious and well presented. The room needed a little something, but I really did not care as the food was so good.
