Nicolas Cocina de Herencia

Excellent service that we've come to expect from Nicolas. The chicharones and ribeye with guacamole is always a must for my man and I love the maitaki birria as a plant-based entree. We always get the churros and an espresso for dessert. Extra bonus that the churros come with Nutella. Romantic atmosphere and friendly wait staff are only a few reasons this is our favorite restaurant in Carmel-by-the-sea.

It looked nice and clean but that's all I can say since me and my partner were ignored by the waitresses. We made eye contact but nothing. Other tables got helped as soon as they seated. We left the restaurant because we waited for over 20 minutes with no service, won't ever go again.

Exceptional cuisine. We always enjoy Nicolas. One of my favorite restaurants in Carmel if not the best.

We waited maybe 20 minutes although we had a re3servation. There is no way to order a cocktail or any place to sit while waiting. Once seated it took maybe 10 minutes before we saw anyone. Once we ordered it took about 45 minutes to receive any food. Twice someone came over to apologize for the delay but we came so close to walking out. Very unnerving. Not at all what we wanted on our special weekend away. We will not go back.

Such inventive and well executed menu items! Everything was so fresh and delicious. This place is certainly one of a kind. We will dream of the day when we can come back.

One of the best Mexican meals we’ve had🌮. — And to top it off the staff including server were extraordinarily nice people.

The food was okay, but the service left a lot to be desired. It was noticeable how other tables were being helped, while our experience felt overlooked. The restaurant wasn’t busy, so there was plenty of room and opportunity for food delivery or at least an acknowledgment, yet that part fell short.

What made the experience better was Georgina, the runner. She was very helpful, consistently attentive, and made sure we were taken care of. Without her efforts, the visit would have been disappointing.

This place sucked!!!! They are idiots. I asked for chips while waiting for cold crappy fajitas to be refired. They had the nerve to charge $18 for friggin chips. Avoid at all costs!!

Come here for drinks and starters. We were happy with the margaritas. The food presentation was a 10. However, the service really took away from our experience. I had to walk to the front to ask for someone to bring water, take our drink order and generally pay attention to our group when the restaurant was scarce. We were one of three tables. And our drinks were made and sitting at the bar long enough to get watered down. The food should be hot and the water should be cold. But it wasn’t. There’s some work to be done to make this a 4-5 star restaurant.

On our Labor Day weekend off, we went to Nicolas to have a dinner. We were not able to make reservations anywhere that day, so we decided to walk in. We had been in Nicolas before with a party of 6 and we really liked the food. We walked in around 5:30-6 pm and were seated outside. We were 2 adults and a kid. We ordered food and asked to bring as it’s ready because the kid was really hungry. The service was a problem right away. We were never served water even though we asked for it multiple times. The appetizers came in a reasonable time but everything else, including second order of drinks and main course, took forever. We eventually went to the bar multiple times to get water. The plates were mot changed after we asked so we had to take it from another table, etc. Our check was ~$200. The food at the same time was very nice, however the restaurant was clearly understaffed, and even though they were able to seat us, they were not equipped to provide a good quality service. That’s was unfortunate for the price we paid:(

Their website is down and it says “expired website ”. I called to order and asked the person who answered on Thursday at 11:50am can you please send a menu? Or how can I view the menu if your website is down. The guy who answer the phone said “I don’t know anything about that…” could of said let me find out for you, let me see how I can help, or could of told me what they had over the phone. I work front desk position at 2 different inns in Carmel by the sea but I wont be referring our guest there after that call. I’m disappointed!
