Food is excellent, service good and really friendly, only issue is that while the service is good and friendly, staffing is a little light, and at the busy hour things are a bit slow.

Ordered unagi donkuri. It came with four small pieces of Unagi in a giant bowl of rice! Had to send it back at first because the rice was stale. Very disappointing!

You can't find a quieter spot for a very late lunch or very early dinner than Robata at 4 PM! As usual, offerings wide and good. I always seem to end up with some Tempura, Miso soup and barbecued rice to go with my main, which was steak. Delicious.

I am only leaving this review because the experience we had at Robata Grill & Sake Bar in Carmel was so different than the ratings I see here. The menu looked hopeful as we were looking for an authentic meal. Unfortunately, the food was more akin to an all you can eat sushi bar chain than an authentic robata experience. Not a high-end Japanese restaurant at all.

I'm loving Robata all over again! We met new owner Josie recently and decided to have a group lunch there. We had fabulous service and the food was so fresh and perfectly prepared. I think most of us went for the Bento Boxes, which are delicious and you get to choose from a variety of menu items. My client and I just ate there again today - wonderful! Added bonus of being in the beautiful Barnyard. Highly recommend.

Great little place! Went for a family lunch and the wait staff were so nice, very accommodating and pleasant. Both food and drinks came out quickly but we never felt rushed and took our time ordering between appetizers/drinks and our entrees. The salmon choice in the lunch bento box was a hefty portion my mom ended up sharing with my dad. Gyoza was really tasty and the tempura was perfectly fried. Will definitely go back for a dinner soon!

We have loved Robata Grill for many, many years. Yes, the restaurant has had its ups and downs over the years as owners have come and gone, but the lovely ambience of the place is so unique, and with the new ownership this time around, the food and service are once again excellent. Thank goodness the Castroville Ten is still on the menu and still wonderful, and I prefer the sauce on the side so yay! Yes, the sushi may be a bit more pricey than other local restaurants, but I thought the rolls at Robata are quite a bit bigger than some other restaurants. I noticed this when I couldn't finish my two rolls at Robata and I easily eat two rolls elsewhere. Our service was quick, friendly and attentive. I do hope they get a more lively bar scene going because the bar is very pretty with lots of ambience. I am so happy to know they are open now for lunch! I would highly recommend trying Robata again if you haven't been in a while.

I just visited with my friend Jaymie the other day, and I loved the atmosphere here. The new ownership has really changed things around to make it more enjoyable experience and everything I ordered was just right. Highly recommend!

Happy has been limited to the bar area and their selection on the menu. Their Hamachi is smaller and thinner pieces. The price overall went up too much considering they cut down portion sizes.

Robata has gone through many iterations in the past 40 years- from excellent when owned by the Fukumotos to less so and now has been in a bit of a resurgence with the new owners. I enjoyed going back there , the food was very good, the wine list acceptable , sake ( of course). Nice place for a quiet Japanese style dinner.
