If you are passionate about your coffee and don't like the sad, brown ash they sell at the supermarket (yes even the high-end snooty ones are ash). If you are a coffee aficionado and want to appreciate the complexities of the magical dark brew. If you have realized that nothing but the best, the very best will do in the morning; and that whatever else the rest of the peasantry drink is brown swill; then and only then will go here. Order online, order the beans, open the bag, and marvel at the jeweled tones of the dark amber, oily, beans. Your hands will smell of coffee and chocolate when you touch them and you wont want to wash your hands afterward. Grind the beans well (almost to a fine expresso grind), make a pot, and take your first sip. I guarantee you will never, ever, go back. Promise. Cross my heart. We have been customers for 8 years, and I have hesitated writing this review for 8 because I don't want to share the secret of why anyone who has coffee at our house goes into paroxysms of delight. Well, this is the reason. My top choices? The Columbian, if you like a dark yet fruity magical complexity. If you like subtle chocolatey overtones, I recommend the costa rican.

Scents astounding! The proprietor has been doing business for quite a while so is very educated and sweet. Sets aside some effort to clarify the assortments, and she has a great deal. Her strategy for broiling is unrivaled since it leaves the espresso less acidic, which is better for you! Smart thought to call previously. Certainly worth looking at!

Smells amazing! The owner has been in business for a long time so is super knowledgeable and sweet. Takes time to explain the varieties, and she has a lot. Her method of roasting is superior since it leaves the coffee less acidic, which is better for you! Good idea to call before. Definitely worth checking out!

This is my favorite coffee, I especially like the Artemus selection. Chatz makes small batches of many varieties of coffee at their roasting plant in Ceres California ( near Modesto). I order it online from them and they ship it usually within 3 days. Their coffee is strong and robust and I liked it so much, that I gave up Starbucks and Peet's both of which had been my favorite.

Small storefront with quick service and excellent coffees. Breakfast sandwiches and burritos are worth a stop! Friendly, smiling staff.

Was excited to "save" money and come here for their $3 large drip coffee versus the $3.75/4 everywhere else in SOMA. Yet once there they hit me with the "50 cents for card charge" which made it as expensive as all the roasters without the quality. I'll be back to try the food, was just a bit annoyed.

I come here a lot for breakfast, but I have recently found my experiences to be inconsistent. They've gotten my bagel order wrong multiple times, to which I don't realize until I'm back at my office. The people working are very kind, but it would be nice to have my jalapeí±o bagel/chive cream cheese like I ordered, instead of being surprised with an onion bagel/plain cream cheese.

Coffee is great. Small house roast is perfect. This morning I decided to give their breakfast burrito a run. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, cheese, salsa - $5.75. Thought, can't hurt to try. Truly the worst burrito of any type I've had in my whole life. I've had a variety of frozen burritos growing up, and they all had more flavor and personality. Of course I ate it, because it was tiny and I was hungry, but dang. Lacking flavor and couldn't tell the ingredients apart. Bacon was mediocre/meager, potatoes not crisp of flavored well, eggs were watery scrambled. The tortilla... was oddly transparent and had an off texture. Salsa helped it go down. Walked by the crepe shack and saw a ham, egg, and cheese crepe for 7$. Will give that a go next time, but will not order another burro from Chatz. Coming back for the coffee though!

Pretty good spot for a quick cup of coffee. Rarely any line and they brew some good beans. The best thing about Chatz though may be their breakfast burritos. They are premade and warmed up in a m'wave to order....yet they are super-tasty. These burritos are also the most perfectly-sized breakfast burritos I've ever found. They come in chorizo, bean and maybe ham too. The sausage one is excellent. The burritos are a little bigger around than a tennis racquet grip. That may make 'em seem overly skinny, but they're not. Think of an oversized grip, for a big person. Like Djokovic, maybe. Or, how about a tall Red Bull can? The barrel of a standard whiffle ball bat? A good ol' Kenosha beef brat from somewhere west of the Loop? Basically, thinner than a normal Mission burrito and thicker than a BART handrail. Anyway, they're the perfect size. And they come with fresh salsa. Mmmmm......

This was a fun local stop on the way to office but just ran into an unforgiving attitude so bye-bye. Coffee is good but today as I was putting stuff in my morning joe at the cramped sugar & fixings table, I dropped my $1 hardboiled egg on the ground. My bad, but I asked if I could have another one and the manager said "You dropped it so you need to buy another one." It's $1 to me and about 30 cents to him - it's not the money but the thought that counts, so I'm steering clear of the bad vibes in the future. Many other coffee shops in the neighborhood.
