Cross Contaminating food!!! This place might be around a long time but when we went in there a couple of days ago waiting in line for 20 minutes the boys were touching shrimp from freeze, touched tape in register, touched drink cups and back to freezer open lever and getting food from freeze with NO GLOVES!!! How could you owner!!!! Never going there again!

The portion size of the food was good. But I was disappointed with the taste of the fish. It was very bland. There was no seasoning , so sad to say I won’t be returning.

I visited this establishment on a whim and was thoroughly impressed by the Fish and Chips. The dish featured hot, freshly fried Pollock—a thick, white fish that was cooked to perfection. The fish was complemented by crisp, golden French fries, creating a satisfying and flavorful meal. The tartar sauce was exceptionally well-prepared, enhancing the overall dining experience. Additionally, the service was excellent, making for a seamless and enjoyable visit. Whether dining in or opting for takeout, this restaurant delivers outstanding quality and taste.

Someone needs to change the rating score from 4.7 to 5.0 or 10 (if it were possible). My family has been coming here for the best fish and chips, shrimp, and zucchini for years. We had an H. Salt nearby in Montebello years ago but unfortunately it suffered a fire and the owners never decided to rebuild or reopen so the hunt began to find the best fish and chips around and lo and behold we found this hidden gem in the City of Downey, with a little help of course. The owner of the previous H. Salt in Montebello knew the owner of this fish and chips joint and recommended it if we were ever in the area and my family is grateful 🙏 he did cause this has been our spot since then. The food is worth the drive from anywhere in L.A., the O.C., the I.E. and beyond if you ask me so my advice to everyone who reads this review is. Don't just take my word for it, get the family together, grab the keys, rev it up, and go try it for yourself. Believe me, you won't even care to think about the drive or traffic you battled to get here after trying this place. So it being Super Bowl Sunday I think it's time to visit the undisputed champion of fish and chips and make today's game really worth the watch. Perfect for any occasion. In 2023, I left a 1-star review for H Salt Fish & Chips in Downey due to their cash-only policy, which was very inconvenient. Fast forward to 2024, and they now accept credit/debit. I decided to give them another shot, and I’m so glad I did!
Downey doesn’t have many places serving authentic British/English-style fish and chips, so this spot really stands out. The prices are reasonable, the portions are generous, and the menu is customizable. I ordered the 2 fish and 4 shrimp combo, with an added side of zucchini on a stick. Everything was excellent! The batter was crispy, light, and perfectly fried. Pairing the fish with tartar sauce and a squeeze of lemon really took it to the next level. The meal was flavorful, satisfying, and filling.
The location has plenty of parking, the interior is clean with charming decor, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Service was quick, and everything felt fresh and well-prepared.
My only suggestion would be to start offering fish tacos—it would be a fantastic addition to the menu! Overall, I’m thrilled to update my review to 5 stars. If you’re in the Downey area and craving delicious fish and chips, this place is where you want to be!
