Super friendly staff. Sushi is good proportion and tastes fresh. Local Uni is very good. Did not get to try Korean items on menu. I've eaten there several times and enjoyed myself each time.

This is a small restaurant near Downtown Downey and the Look in movie theater. There's a parking structure across the street.
The place was calm and not too noisy when I went. There was no wait either.
I tried their Arnold Palmer and didn't enjoy it since it wasn't sweet and seemed watered down by all the ice. The short ribs came out sizzling. They were great. The sushi was okay. I'm not a big fan of spicy tuna and almost every roll had it. I tried it anyway and it wasn't for me. Then I ordered a customized roll (for a fee) where I substituted the spicy tuna for avocado. I enjoyed it. My partner had a beer and they brought him a tiny, cute cup. Lol
Customer service was great. They were very attentive and efficient. They greeted us, checked on us a few times and said goodbye as well.

I can see there are already reviews addressing what I am going to say and it’s probably not going to be resolved by management since some of these reviews are from years ago up until now so this is just a heads up if you’re planning to visit here. If you don’t leave a tip, the waitress lady will ask you to leave one. It’s happened twice to us and the second time happened on March 6, 2025. We didn’t think much of the first time since we really enjoyed the food/environment and gave the waitresses the benefit of the doubt. It’s embarrassing to be put on the spot in front of other people and she will follow you outside the door with the receipt and pen demanding a tip. We leave tip most of the time when we can. We saw the same thing happen to a couple and they were already getting in their car, regardless the waitress still followed them all the way out there, it’s embarrassing and ruins the dining experience. So be aware and prepared if you’re planning to dine there.
We always have the best time there and the food is absolutely awesome. We love their sushi and spending time together there.

Today @11/25/24 I went into the Ichiban with high hopes from when I came here 2 years ago. Although for this visit there was an older lady with glasses and somewhat of perm. Towards the end when I paid she asked for a tip. Obviously it is unwritten rule about not asking for a tip. When she returned the bill and asked if the service was wrong, it threw me off because she then asked “why no tip”. I was confused about it I leaving cash. I don’t put tips on card. It felt rude to ask I will not be coming here again because of that lady. I was there to enjoy a Friday evening with my friends. Overall great restaurant but that specific server asked for a tip even though she did not help us at all. It ruined the night.

We've tried a lot of sushi spots in the Downey area and this one has proved to be a consist favorite. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is always delicious. We're working our way through the whole menu and we've yet to find a roll we didn't love. Wonderful!
