Aji Japanese Bistro

WE went to Aji tonight. I have to give the restaurant high marks for getting a table ready for us and it was busy. The hostess was awesome. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. But the food was terrible at best. I had veggie donburi. The vegetables were mush and what looked like had been cooked for 3 days..in fact you couldn't even tell what vegetable it was. Rice was all stuck and glued together and no sauce or flavor. My partners sushi roll was mediocre at best with no bowl given for soy sauce. When our food came out, a few wait people brought it out and proceed to just call out the dish and we as customers had to raise our hands like a diner. Why do we all pay so much to get such little. Find another place if you want decent food.

This place was recommended to us by our winemaker. Drove here from Roseville, and we were NOT disappointed! Sat at the bar with my wife. Gorgeous atmosphere - has the upscale Asian feel with unique modern art and design. Big bar. The dining area is beautiful. Outside seating is available with nice views of the canal and wildlife. The food was delicious and unique. Many options from sushi, sashimi, to ramen and upscale fish dishes. The chef embraces Japanese cuisine with all sorts of flavors. The ramen was bomb! The bar had 4-5 beers on tap - had even Japanese craft imports. What I loved the most was that they use fresh squeezed juice for their craft cocktails - the key for delicious drinks. Crafty gin options were really good. Thr bartender was engaging and motivated. We had an awesome experience. Will visit again 100% ! Highly recommend.

The bad: When Ordering sushi rolls and the ingredients are listed. You kind of expect all of the ingredients to be On each and every piece of dissushi, roll right, maybe a little bit missing from the ends? Well, our rolls came out with certain ingredients barely on four pieces of the entire sushi roll which was very disappointing.Honestly the worst part with that we had a booth that directly faced the kitchen. The kitchen floor was filthy and we got to watch our server wash their hands 3 times.....which was three times more than the cooking staff there. One cook didn't wash their hands the entire hour we were there and the other cook washed his hands o ly to pick up his cell phone, then directly touch the edge of the knife with his cell phone contaminated hand to what I assume is test the sharpness of the blade. Their cooks clearly didn't take their Servsafe courses seriously.The good: Our server. She was on it, washed her hand frequently and was super, duper awesome. I don't remember her name but she was great.

This is one of (if not) my favorite place to eat. The menu is always full of tempting choices. Resturaunt has a great atmosphere and outside dining. Staff is always solid. Kalbi fries are ?

Aji is our favorite. Incredible food and drinks. Get the Aji Fin or the Hamachi Jalapeño, no joke, they love rent-free in my head. I think about them way too much.

It's a great place for Japanese food (they also have burgers!). The sake is good, the sushi rolls are great, and the lunch specials are filling. I had mixed tempura with California rolls. Mrs G had the salmon salad.

Dietary restrictions: They have a gluten free menu. You need to avoid regular soy sauce, and you're fine. Tamari sauce is a good, gluten free, soy sauce alternative.

Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchairs can enter, and roll around with no problem.

Never like to pull that card, but I will for this review. The. Gentlemen running the front desk, red hair. Work on yourself and treat everyone the same, we don’t need a feel of discrimination in this world. You’ll probably deny it if you read this review but I know what I saw and felt. No acknowledgment really when I came in, not a hi or what did I need. I had to tell you what I’m there for. An older white couple walks in, you are all smile and acknowledging them to have a seat right by me. What a pity. I’ve been a manager in retail for 10 years and 8 years in Finance, I focus deeply on customer service. I won’t be coming back and forsure not recommending our company caters from you ever. To the owners, get someone with genuine service to the front desk.

Food was great and the Sushi Rolls are fire, I've tasted a lot of Sushi Rolls but these were by far the best I ever had
