Im not used to making reviews for restaurants, but just needed to vent how downhill this restaurant became. When the new owners took it over about 1.5 years ago, they kept the same menu and it isnt anything what it used to be. Such a shame. The new owners shouldn’t even try to use the same dishes. Also, we tried it again last night to see if it got better. We ordered the hummus. They brought it out to us 2 minutes later and it was ice cold!! They obviously just pre make everything. Who the heck wants ice cold hummus ?

Love the atmosphere, no loud music pounding in our ears, we were actually able to enjoy a nice conversation. The food was excellent and the staff was friendly and efficient. I've been here twice now and enjoyed both times, I will definitely go back again.

Moved to the area not too long ago from the Bay Area and have felt really disappointed by the restaurants in the area... so glad I gave Bamiyan a try! SOOOOO GOOD! Absolutely recommend! Growing up I had homemade Ashak and it was immediately a favorite food- gave it a try here and was sooo happy by how good it was- have tried Patak and Mantoo as well- so good! The bread as well as the humus is also so good! Highly recommend!

Really great food. I had the morg chalow which was sautéed chicken served with saffron rice and eggplant. It was excellent and really flavorful. The eggplant was tender and stood out as the best part of a very good plate.Seemed like most in our party of 7 were happy with what they ordered except for one who ordered Ashak which is the boiled dumplings. I think this was just personal preference and they seemed to enjoy the food that was shared with them from others plates.Ambiance was nice and I really enjoyed the music that they played. Service was friendly but a bit slow.

You may be hesitant because it's an unfamiliar cuisine but don't be. Spices are very mild but extremely delicious. Another one of my favorites in the EDH area.

We haven't been here in a couple years so we were looking forward to some savory flavors from the past. The place looks the same but has been under new management for about a year. The servers were very nice. We noticed that the prices are a little lower but unfortunately the food quality has also gone down. The afghan bread was baked fresh and was warm and delicious as before. Unfortunately it was kinda downhill from there. The other appetizers were kinda meh. The eggplant puree was magical the way it was before and now is not the same. The chicken shish kebab was overcooked and dry. The other entrees were uninspired. Overall a good place if you want to try a different cuisine, but we won't likely be back.

Was a bit worried about the food quality being as good as it was with the previous owners but the new owner's food quality did not disappoint. The food was absolutely superb. We love this place and think it is the best tasting food in EDH (IMHO).
We hadn't been here in quite awhile. My husband suggested it for Friday night. I have always been pleased with Bamiyan so I agreed and I'm so glad I did. The restaurant is more upscale with interesting menu items that you won't find at other local restaurants. When entering the restaurant we were quickly greeted and seated. We decided on an appetizer pakawra which is thinly sliced, battered and fried potato. The sauce was on the spicy side and it was delicious. My entree was mantoo with eggplant. It was like a ravioli and delicious. My husband had the kofta (meatballs). The wine by the glass is a generous pour and their prices are very reasonable. Service was excellent. Definitely need to remember Bamiyan in the future.

Since we moved to El Dorado Hills, we always wanted to try Bamiyan. We moved here from Fremont which is home to a big Afghan population and have had some wonderful food in the past. So the hope was to find a fix here that will help with the Afghan food cravings. Sad to say but the food at Bamiyan was at best average. All the food has too much sumac and lacks flavor. Ambience is good. They have nice decoration on the walls. Nice music in the background running. The menu has nice detail about the name origin. Pricing is pretty good too. We ordered the two afghan drunk cocktails. The pomegranate one was just store brought POM pomegranate juice that I saw the employee mix in the vodka. The alcohol was very light. For appetizers we got the sampler, the shish kebab and the mantoo. None of these arrived at the same time & the wait was about 5-10 minutes each between each item. For the main course, the lamb steak was dry and hard. They have a sumac overload on everything. Even kids food. Spare that at least. Firnee was good. Service was OK not the best. I will be skipping this place & hope to find a good Afghan food place in El Dorado Hills.
