Pastries have been over baked/hard the past few months. They are usually spot on. The danish prices are a little steep - an extra dollar for three canned cherries versus the plain danish is a lot. Overall, they taste good and I keep going back. Just wish they’d stop baking things so long and include more filling for the price.
Bought three chocolate croissants today around 1 pm at the farmers market off of Sunset. The guy selling at the stand nice. Walked around a bit, went to the museum and got home around 3 pm. Went to eat a croissant and it was so hard and chewy I had to throw it away. Waste of $15.

I found Roan Mills when searching online for a local baker. I was first drawn to them by their story and I was not disappointed when I got there. The service and the selection of product was amazing. Nearly everything we bought that day could be the best I’ve had anywhere; Sheppard pie, French baguette, scone, even the lattes! I will be a forever customer after that one visit.

Something about being treated poorly, early in the morning casts a pall on everything. Arrived shortly after opening. Four employes bustling to get fresh baked goods out, of course... and a young woman at register loaded with eyerolls and sighs. There were no other customers yet. The baker was running his show in back- well staffed, but the girl at register peeved because I wanted to know what was in the (yet) unlabelled croissants. I bought two of the cheese and veggie filled croissants (2 kinds) and a fresh baked super crusty sourdough round. The texture of the baked goods is very nice, BUT the cheese based fillings are flat and may as well be a schmear of cream cheese- not all that special and while the sourdough has great texture, it had very little "sour" a whisper of sour - if that. I would consider trying this bakery again, but being snubbed by staff and treated poorly isn't my bag. Fillmore is a friendly town- until you walk into this place. Whatever it is that is making employees cranky- it bleeds over into joy of the product. No thanks. We prefer things made with some joy. Bad moods make bad food. If you hear a cook whistling or singing- the food is usually darn good. Maybe the baker can harvest some sour from the mean counter girl -to give their sourdough what it needs.
