Fun times and good wine! Nice selection of varietals and easy drinking wines. Inside also has a great selection of cheeses and meats for a nice afternoon watching the waves crash on their bluff. Friendly staff, and owners, round out an overall great experience.
We visited Pacific Star Winery last Sunday around 4 PM with our family, including our 3-year-old. The property itself is absolutely beautiful — the views are stunning and the atmosphere could have been very relaxing.
Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. Even though we were sitting in the designated area where children are allowed, a woman (I’m not sure if she was the owner or an employee) came over and yelled at my 3-year-old after he picked up and dropped a small pebble. I immediately explained that he’s just a toddler and that I would get him settled, but she rudely said, “I don’t care how old he is — he needs to sit and stay quiet.”
Her tone and attitude were extremely disrespectful and uncalled for. No one should speak to a child that way, especially at a place that supposedly allows families in certain areas.
While the location is beautiful, the staff’s behavior completely ruined our visit. I would not recommend bringing kids here — even if you stay in the designated area — as the staff made us feel very unwelcome
This afternoon we finally stopped at Pacific Star Winery, located right on Highway 1 north of Fort Bragg. I’ve driven past it many times and decided today was the day to try their wines and take in the scenery. First off, the views are spectacular—the winery sits directly on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and you can see why it’s one of the most photographed wineries in California.
We did a tasting of five wines, starting with their Viognier and finishing with the Zinfandel. The pours were generous enough to get a good sense of each, and we enjoyed the lineup overall. Afterward, we walked around the property, which is filled with rustic touches like stacked barrels and gardens, and made our way down along the cliffs by the sea. The weather couldn’t have been better, and the coastal breeze made it a relaxing way to spend the afternoon.
The photos capture some of what makes this spot special: rows of old barrels set against the coastal landscape, the winery’s gardens in full bloom, and the dramatic rocky coastline just steps from the tasting area.
Pacific Star Winery is worth the stop if you’re traveling Highway 1. Even if you’re not a big wine drinker, the ocean views alone are enough reason to visit, but the wines and laid-back atmosphere make it even better.
Wine is a 5/10, views are good but they really are not pet and kids friendly. I would not bring your kids or pets, period. If you
Have kids or pets move on. Owner was not the nicest when it came to a baby being there crying.
The views are stunning and the wines are nice enough. Two negative experiences turned me off to this place forever.
On one occasion I planned to bring a date to one of their summer evening bonfires, drive 3 hours and found the gate locked. The web site said they were open, but they were NOT. They claimed the weather conditions cancelled the event and that was listed on the web, but it absolutely WAS NOT, they did not answer they're phone, and their phone message said nothing about it.
This weekend we decided to give them another try and find a big sign saying NO PETS and NO MINORS. What kind of outdoor tasting room is NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY and NOT DOG FRIENDLY?
Forget them.
5 stars for the absolutely stunning views.
Minus 4 stars for Mrs. Owner who is this incredibly snobbish lady and will literally force you to pay for wine tasting, even after we very clearly said “Hey, we like dry and less acidic red wines.”
Also she has absolutely no clue about wines either - made ridiculous statements like “this white wine you’re trying is the least acidic thing we have on the menu” and “try this hybrid wine, I think you’ll like it” - all this AFTER we said right at the beginning to give us a dry red wine. Guess what we ended up buying? The dry red wine - exactly what we asked for originally!
Btw the wines are pretty mediocre in general.
That being said, Mr. Owner seemed like a nice guy and was actually a good conversationalist - wish we’d dealt with him instead when selecting our wine as well.
And yeah, like all the other 1-star reviews here, I’m fully expecting some defensive reply from the owners that conveniently justifies this kind of behavior.
Beautiful spot, disappointing experience.
We absolutely love this spot! The views are incredible. There’s lot of places to sit on the property and enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the gorgeous views. Pictures just don’t do it justice, you have to see it in person for yourself. The staff are always so friendly as well!
Pacific Star Winery is the most amazing winery I have ever been to. I don’t think there is better winery scenery anywhere in the world. This is my vibe. I have no words to describe how truly incredible it is.
The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable.
I wasn’t a fan of the wine selections, I’m a sweet wine person, and everything was on the dry side, but it doesn’t matter because the place is that awesome. They could have fed me the driest wine available and I would have happily consumed every sip and smiled the whole time.
I can’t wait to go back!!! Pacific Star Winery is heaven at the ocean!
**Pacific Star Winery made my favorite stop list.
Pacific Star is a great place to unwind or relax when you are traveling Highway 1, specially when you are on a long drive. They have wine to purchase that you can bring down to their magnificent picnic area overlooking a beautiful ocean view with breath taking sunsets. They have wine tasting and price is reasonable. You can also purchase a bottle or more to bring home. They have a public restroom you can use before you continue your journey. Dont forget to layer clothing as it can sometimes get cold.
Best place to have a glass of wine and enjoy the ocean. Open Friday thru Sunday. Get a bottle of Charbono or Barbara, and your day will be made.

Breath taking views, good wine, nice couple who runs it.
The views are absolutely breathtaking!
Amazing place 🍷
Incredible location and views. The whole property is stunning. We weren’t overly impressed with the wine itself, but I would recommend checking it out for the experience and awesome views of the cliffs and ocean
Nice location, however, no dogs are allowed (even though they have a lot of outdoor space).
