Excellent local place. Food is good and they have gigantic portions. The only thing is that during peak lunch and dinner time the service can be a bit slow so just plan to go there on a night that you have plenty of time. Well worth it if you have time to stay and take in the atmosphere! Love the calamari steak sandwich!

recently, I was having a debate with someone as to what place has the best fries, I can confidently say the wooden nickel by far has the best. I recently got some takeout. The Ortega burger and a half order of onion rings and french fries. Everything was absolutely delicious and I forgotten how much I loved the food here. as soon as I walked in the door, the staff was so kind and absolutely put a smile on my face. I probably look like a grinning idiot walking out of there with my food so excited to eat it on the car ride home because I was too impatient to wait. great place to eat if you're ever in the mood for some beers and burgers. They have many other things on the menu that are just as good.

Incredibly slow to take our order, then an incredibly long wait for food. How long does it take to make a Rueben. It's already cooked!!! NEVER EVER COMING HERE AGAIN. Food still hasn't arrived and we have been here an hour! Finally left after paying for two drinks Waitress didn't even care

Great place. I will totally drop by again when in the neighborhood. In a world full of Starbucks, chilli's and Applebee's its great to see and old school place surviving and thriving!

This. Place. Is. Awesome!!!! It was our first time visiting, but certainly not our last. This somewhat dive-y, yet excellent place was packed on a rainy Friday night. We put our name in, but luckily found seats at the bar. What made the night awesome were the PEOPLE and the FOOD. This was probably the best bar food I've had in a long time. So I'm on a couple personal food missions: 1. Try all 100+ ice cream flavors at Marianne's. I even started a spreadsheet. (As of today, we've tried 8 flavors.) 2. If clam chowder is on the menu, order it. (So far, we've tried Phil's, Margaritaville's, and now, Wooden Nickel's.) The clam chowder wasn't thick, white, and creamy. It reminded me of the kind of clam chowder my aunt, or true New Englanders, would make, with a clearer broth. It tasted a lot more gourmet than its surroundings. The bread it came with was also delicious. For dinner, I splurged on the onion rings (they came out piping hot!) and the Nickel burger. My hubby got the red snapper verde which came with a side of pasta and he licked the plates clean. So In n' Out is my all-time favorite burger, but The Nickel is definitely a contender. The bread was nice and chewy, the meat was well-seasoned, and it came with cheese, mushrooms, bacon, avocado, and SPROUTS (which really made the sandwich). It was just perfectly made and built. The burger came with fries, coleslaw, and a yummy, homemade piece of chocolate cake I was in love! The regulars welcomed us with open arms and were so kind, cool, and nice. We ended up chatting the whole night. My skinny margaritas were well made (they have a STOCKED bar), they have little bottles of champagne (yes!), and our bartender was friendly and funny. Come for the food, stay for the people!

Maybe it was a bad night, but that was an awful patty melt. Partially green tomatoes, super-inconsistent onions (some burnt/some still crisp). The patty was weirdly gritty and it wasn’t so much moist as it was wet with something that wasn’t beef fat.The coleslaw was just weird - orange juice and raisins? Maybe that’s somebody’s jam, pun intended, but it was like eating the joke people make about white people food. Finally, the draft lines tasted dirty - worst glass of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale I’ve ever had.The fries were good for the few minutes before they got a little cool. Great atmosphere and staff, so not 1 star.

Really yummy food! We discovered that they don't answer their phone, so we went in person to order takeout. The server who helped us was very nice and went out of his way to make sure that we got everything we needed: he separated hot & cold food into 2 different bags, asked about our condiment preferences, and so on. We don't dine indoors, haven't since the pandemic, but the atmosphere seemed very friendly and well-appointed. Mostly, though, we'll return for the food: large portions, perfectly cooked, exactly as described on the menu.

I kept bragging to my cousin about this place who lives in Chicago, hadn't been here for a good 2 years .Sad ?to say customer service was bad, we both had steak n eggs, with potatoes, which were browned & burnt, steak was smothered with like a teriyaki sauce, and repeatedly had to ask for refills on coffee and soft drink. Server only came to take order. Never returned unless I was able to get her attention. Also, place was not full we sat near the bar where only 3 tables were occupied and 2 tables on the other diner end. I had to ask for the tab at the bar, when I paid with cash the server NEVER said Thank you, She just placed my change on counter and walked away. This place needs a thorough deep cleaning. The menu had stained food, the salt shaker had a long hair on it.and with the bright sun coming through you can tell no window washing or wiping was done neither! Come on Watsonville? What Happened to GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. And I still left a tip? Next time, I'll stick with my usual place Cowboy Cafe in Watsonville.
