This has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. I’ve been coming here since they were just a tiny shop and watched them grow into what they are today.
Tonight, I came to pick up my usual bento, and for the first time ever, I was told that chili sauce now costs an extra $0.50.
It’s not about the money — it’s just something I’ve never experienced here, or honestly anywhere else in the Bay Area. I’ve worked as a server in several restaurants myself, and we never charged customers for basic sauces. None of my managers would even consider asking us to do that.
So whether I look at it as a customer or someone who has worked in the industry, this is the first time I’ve ever seen a place charge for chili sauce. It’s ridiculous. Maybe the heavy customer traffic made them feel like they can get away with it — but honestly, it’s pretty pathetic.

Recently feel like their sushi Rolls have more rice than before?!!! hopefully they will bring back the original version. I know they have expanded and hopefully that bar that they have should be put to good use such as selling Vietnamese coffee or Thai tea. I don’t have any photo this time but next time I will show you about the rice that I’m talking about too much rice blunts to taste of the entire sushi

The place is, well, forget the place, let’s talk about food.
Soft shell crab - did not look good. Flat and squished. It was fishy and the taste was off, seriously off. I think it was rotten. Worst soft shell crab I’ve ever eaten in my life.
Tempura- the veggies were good, I didn’t even bother with the shrimp since it looks like they cook it the same way as the soft shell crab, same batter too. Just stick with veggie tempura. I have never seen any restaurant had tempura came with 2 types of batters, unless it is one of those udon places that sells tempura by individual pieces.
Chirachi sushi- big portion. Shashimi were fishy, definitely not fresh. Taste weird too. The only good thing about it was the fresh chopped mustard pickled on top.
Salmon Kama - bland but decent.
2 stars for the vegetable tempura and Kama.
Worse sushi/sashimi place ever. I do not recommend this place.

Been going to this place for several years. All their sushi rolls are very good and are a good value. I tried their Black Garlic Ramen and was not impressed. Really good portion size but the pork belly were chewy cut into cubes rather than thinner slices. The broth was just OK. The pork belly was a little chewy with an off-putting seasoning. I would strongly suggest ordering their rolls over their ramen. Lots of seating ever since their expansion. Plenty of free parking. Yes to the rolls, and a pass to their ramen.
Update: their rolls are all excellent. Great portion size, very fresh and tasty, and priced right. My go to sushi roll place.

I feel I was tricked by the reviews on Google and Yelp. This place was awful. Service was poor. I should have known better when I walked in at 5:30 pm and the place was empty. I have never sent back a roll but had to at this place

This is a nice clean Sushi spot.
No frills just great tasting sushi that cone in generous portions and great attentive service. The Mukbang roll is an experience. I highly recommend this place for sushi lovers who value the food over the decorations.

I have been a loyal Kakuna sushi goer for years now. If there is one place I would go to I always go here. But my last experience was absolutely horrible. I ordered an unagi and spicy tuna roll, both were slimy and absolutely inedible. I called them and let them know, even telling them ive been going there for years. They said oh just let us know next time we will give you a free roll. I hate to do this but im really dissapointed. You guys were my favorite but you did me dirty. I'm gonna charge back on this purchase, absolutely disrespectful to someone who has been going here for years. A refund is a bare minimum, not coming here anymore.
The most delicious rolls I've eaten in years in the entire Bay Area. And the fish is fresh and correct. Insanely delicious!
They have bought the store next door and now there is a lot more seating

Great deal on sushi. They don't have a happy hour menu anymore, but the regular menu is pretty decent . Staff are nice, but they don't come around to refill our waters. The rest room is in pretty bad shape, no liners, no paper towels and the toilet cover is broken.
Their fish is not fresh. Taste not fresh and stomach feel not good after eating fish sushi.
My favorite sushi spot in the area that I both eat at the restaurant or order on their website for pick up often. Rolls are delicious and decently sized. They have a large selection of rolls, sides, and my friend was pleased by the amount of vegetarian rolls available. They had recently expanded the size of the restaurant, so they were able to seat 8 people no problem. Parking is pretty easy to find unless you're there during busy times or holidays.
The sushi here is seriously good - fresh ingredients, creative rolls you won’t find anywhere else. The Fuji Roll? Absolutely delicious. Prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly, even if the vibe inside feels a bit cramped and could use a deeper clean. It’s a small spot, so I’d recommend takeout or delivery over dining in. For the quality of food though, it’s worth it.
Reasonable prices and great offers. I would give it 5 stars, but I just didn't pick the right rolls for my taste, so they didn't sit well with me.
