La Humadera is a popular food stand located in front of Freewheel Brewing in Fremont, sharing its space with the brewery. This provides plenty of outdoor seating, including picnic tables and areas near a fire pit, creating a good ambiance. The spot is very busy, with long lines especially on weekends, but the kitchen crew works fast. Payment is cash or Zelle/Venmo only.
The menu features Mexican street eats like tacos, mulitas, quesadillas, and quesabirria, all made with fresh, hand-pressed corn tortillas. The carne asada is a standout, grilled over charcoal for incredible, flavorful, and juicy results. Other meats include al pastor, cabeza, lengua, pollo, and birria. The cabeza is noted as very tender and well-seasoned, while the al pastor receives mixed reviews, sometimes lacking bold flavor or pineapple. The vampiro divides opinion, with some finding the tortilla grilled too hard and crispy. Portion sizes are generous and they do not skimp on meat.
Agua fresca options include a unique passion fruit flavor, as well as pineapple, strawberry, and horchata. The salsas are a highlight, with a spicy orange sauce and a salsa verde that are both praised. Each order comes with grilled serrano chilis and whole pearl onions. While some items can be inconsistently seasoned or textured, overall it is considered a legit and worthy taco spot in the area.
