This is a good place for spicy food! It's recently rebrand and called fan hunan bistro.

So first of all, Spices! Is gone and their new name is Fan Hunan Bistro. I have been coming to Spices! For at least 3 years and loved their foods; but, I haven't been there since pandemic. I ordered: fish fillet in flamming oil, Chong-qing chicken, and Mongolian beef which came out to be almost $90. Inflation, right? As long as food tastes good, I wouldn't mind. Well, turned out the food quality was bad, it tasted different, and the portion was significantly less!! RIP Spices! You were good. Not anymore.

This is another one of the good restaurants. They serve both spicy and nonspicy food. Both types taste awesome and fresh made. Absolutely try this place. 5/5 review. Awesome

We were pretty frequent customers for years and specially during the pandemic. Recently, we bought some of our favorite dishes from here again. It is not good anymore. It was nasty. We were thinking that maybe the cook changed, and now we realized that the ownership was changed. We followed the previous owner from SF decades ago to here. So sad that he is gone again and this place is not even decent anymore.

My favorite dishes from here are the griddle cooked cauliflower with ham and the numbing pork liver! I love eating here when I'm craving spicy food

Delicious spicy food! Came here to celebrate a family friend's birthday so we reserved a room in the back. It comes with a karaoke machine. The host of our party ordered a gigantic spread of items from the menu. I'd say I enjoyed 80% of the food ordered. Everything was fragrant and flavorful. The boss came into our room to wish our family friend happy birthday and gave us a free red bean soup dessert and a huge free bowl of noodle soup. Very kind of her!

Food is delicious and restaurant environment is quite cozy inside. Food portion is very generous too.

Everything was so good! You should definitely try their beef tendon and whole fish! Their eggplant and tofu dish is also A MUST. Staff and management were also very nice and friendly.

This place is not what it used to be anymore. I believe it's now under a new management since they also changed the Chinese name of of the restaurant. Prices now is insane at this place, a mediocre dinner for 2( 3 dishes 2 rice) would cost you up to 70 and that's take out price. Orders their signature free range chicken dish. FREE RANGE MY A*** That chicken is dryer than zombies from the walking dead. And that's not the worst, it has no salt either. Total disaster. I used to tolerate their higher prices for the flavor but now it's just a big waste of money. To new Management: Grow up! It ain't 1990s anymore that any authentic Chinese food would do just fine. Authentic trash is still trash.

I am very surprised to see some of the negative comments based on the poor service. I personally think that's where they are getting the extra star from four stars. I have been coming to this place for years to get my beef noodle fix for lunch and often take my kids to get the shaved ice. After having big dinner at a difference place, we decided to stop by Monga to get our usual shaved ice with 5 toppings. I told the server that we were there to only get one dessert. One of the servers was happy to see me as a regular customer and took care of the order. Needless to say, we enjoyed our shaved ice with flan, taro, boba, red beans and something else that I forgot. Since we were getting only dessert, I left a generous tip so that they didn't feel like I was taking up a precious dinner table. I don't think they would ever treat me differently regardless of what I order. Their lunch menu is awesome too. Even if you don't like the noodle, come get your dessert. You will be satisfied.

First time coming since pandemic and their remodel the restaurant. Very relaxing ambience, and interesting of wall pictures. Much more space now to take more customers than before, very good service as always (over 5yrs) and quality is always fresh, not salty like others next door newer establish. 4*_ Beef noodle soup is exactly what I expect from the broth and chewy noodles. 3* _ Pork steak and chicken are good but not crispy on half way through my meal. Kinda sogginess after. 4*_ Pig ear 3* _ Small combo ice shave with yum yum but too hard for bubbles

Appropriate name, the food is spicy and for the most part tasty. My wife and I had a chicken dish full of hot jalapeno peppers, which were called skillfully to tone done the peppers so the dish was edible. I'll give the place some credit, there was a large party in the back and another one in the front, and the kitchen and the waitstaff kept up. The chef even came to our table and apologized for the delay in getting our order, but it wasn't too bad. Give the place 5 stars if you like spicy food. I don't come this way to the Bay Area that often, but expect to be back.

The food here that I've tried is pretty good, but the prices are way out of line and the portion sizes are unsatisfying. I most recently decided to come here because it's walking distance from my home and I was in the mood for Sichuan food, but in retrospect I'd much rather drive the 15-20min to some of the other Sichuan restaurants in the Fremont area. I ordered the Fried Fish Fillet and Chef Wang's Sizzling Beef for takeout and the total came out to $48. For just two dishes! The portion size of each dish was enough to make an average eater "not hungry" when eaten with rice, but certainly not "full". I've also ordered the Spicy Chicken Wings (La Zi Ji) in the past, and they buried a tiny amount of chicken wings in a giant mountain of peppers. Quite disappointing.
