One of my most favorite dishes here is the fish and pickled cabbage soup but when we ordered last week, I could not even recognized it. Did they change the chef? The color is darker, looked unappealing and the sour taste is gone! please, please do not change the recipe, give us a reason to come back.

We tried Fan recently, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavors of the food based on the initial yelp reviews. I normally only write reviews after trying a place a couple times, but wanted to provide feedback early on to the new owners and the encourage yelp reviewers to give new owners a chance to work out the kinks. The Food - 4.5 stars We had a fairly good size group so was able to order a lot of different dishes, including ma po tofu, kung pao chicken and shrimp, beef w/pickled chili, and lotus root w/chili among a couple other dishes. While the prices seemed to be on the slightly higher side, the dishes actually were larger in size and presented well. The flavors were quite good and the quality of ingredients good too. They are also able to adjust the spiciness too which is nice for this style Chinese food. Presentation better than typical Chinese restaurant. Service - 3 stars This is where some kinks need to be worked out as they seemed understaffed for a Saturday night. It took a while to get water and tea refilled. It took multiple requests to get the rice after initial dishes came out. However, they were all very nice and tried their best. I'm rounding up to 3 stars to give a new restaurant a chance to succeed. Overall - 4 stars Fine tune the service and operations, and this restaurant has good potential. Good quality food and good flavors.

My son and husband ordered a pricy meal and my son asked for sweet-and-sour sauce and they gave him one little packet with a bad attitude he asked if he could have a few more and they gave him another one that barely wanted to after spending $60 just for three items I seen other reviews on how some people were treated that's not good treat everyone equal and don't judge anyone by the color of their skin because that's what I really think this establishment Is doing the only really need to take a deep look into the customer service and realize everyone is equal change the customer service make everyone feel welcome and equal

It has a lot of great spicy dishes. The service exceeds most Chinese restaurant, fast, attentive and very friendly with happy face. The food server brought water after seeing burning mouth. We ordered beef, pork, fish, shrimps, tofu and pea shoots. All of them are great with big portions. We got a free dish coupon for next time. We went to this restaurant the second time. All dishes are great in generous portions. Leftover can last a week at home. It's our spicy food restaurant.

Under new owner now. Much better than before. Worth a repeat visit.

Some dishes have slightly different flavors from before (when it was Spices), but I would say that I still like all those flavors. The staff who handed over my order was nice and polite. Here are the reasons why I only gave three stars: Thousands year old egg with soft tofu: The dish is mainly tofu, and it's not silky tofu like before. Tofu is cut into thick slices, so inside of tofu is very plain. Egg doesn't taste bad but it's somehow very hard. This was one of our favorite dishes so we were quite disappointed... Pork rinds: I like the flavor a lot, but the pork rinds are way too chewy. They need to cook it much longer. Fish ball with squash: Has the same flavor as before. I will still order it next time. Overall it's still a good restaurant. Very good portion too. But too bad that my tofu dish isn't the same as before.

To open a restaurant at this level, I can only say that I admire your courage! The village kidney is so hella salty ! Tofu beef, the beef is full of the tenderizer powder, actually you have the guts to not use the silky tofu! Fish-flavored shredded pork, stinky! I ordered lamb ribs, they delivered to me the whatever lamb full of tenderizer meat powder (because there is no cumin taste and spicy taste)! Your meat is all marinated with a lot of tenderizer powder, It's like eating cotton!

Fan Bistro is Spices renamed in Fremont. I was passing by when I saw the ribbon cutting ceremony happening. They weren't officially open yet, but they had tents outside giving away samples. I took a look around, and I decided to come back later. A few days pass when I finally made it back. The restaurant is Spices rechristening with new ownership. I was seated and given the menu. I selected a couple of items, and I snapped a few pictures. I didn't order any of their well-known mind-numbing dishes. I just ordered some non-spicy dishes to sample the flavor. My food was soon brought to my table. The dishes were delicious. I will definitely be back to try out more of their menu.

I've been coming here because I like their explosive spicy wings. The food is still good. This used to be Spices and has now changed ownership. Everything seemed the same, but sadly our service this time was not the best. We were seated and then another party came. Right away we noticed the difference in service. They offered them free sodas and us free water??? They took their order first even after we had been waiting ready to order. The server looked at me and realized he skipped us but didn't apologize for the mistake. While eating the server brought the new owner to introduce him to that table. Saw us and just walked away, then they offered the other table a free plate, nothing for us. One of the people at the other table had been there before but the others were new from what we heard from their loud conversations with the server as we waited to be served. I understand there are different clients, but the difference in service was very obvious and nothing done to at least make it less noticeable like we were not even there. I asked for soda and then they told me they will give me a free one. When they brought it I laughed because they brought me a small 100 calorie can as opposed to at least 5 regular size can sodas the other table got. At least the food quality was still the same. Maybe next time I update and give a better review.

Went to the grand opening today. Was able to try many dishes. Many are mild but some of them that are red in color due to the red peppers, were spicy. Portions are reasonable in size. The beef and chicken dishes were tender and flavorful. Service was first rate. The atmosphere is family friendly and the decor is someplace you can have a date night. Overall a pleasant experience.

Random lunch stop. Great find. Interior is lovely. All our dishes were quite good. The spicy pork and wood ear mushroom was flavorful and spicy. The fish and vegetables was not spicy and perfect for the kid. Staff friendly. Sign on the outside is "Spices".

We stopped here randomly on a trip & were pleasantly surprised. The food was superb & it was a pretty restaurant. We got wood ear pork hotpot, sweet & sour fish, & a delicious mushroom & greens veggie plate. Everything was very good, & even the spring rolls were way above average. If I'm ever in the area again, I would definitely seek this out.
