The absolute best. I’m actually writing this review months after visiting Cali Jays but the place was so good I feel obligated to share some love. I was in Hayfork on a fire assignment last summer and we ate at Cali Jays almost every day. Hands down, best BBQ I’ve ever had. Great flavor, tremendous portions, and the service is top tier. Even when they ran out of BBQ I got the chicken sandwich and couldn’t believe how amazing their non BBQ food was as well. This place is truly a hidden gem. I hope they stay open forever because I plan to do a road trip in the coming years and I will be going out of my way just to hit Cali Jays.

Their meats are worth breaking a bone for!! I can testify, I broke my leg while going to get a pulled pork sandwich over a year and half ago. Hella better bbq than most places I’ve been to in NC! I’ve sent folks here to get me food during recovery and now I’m able to walk, I go whenever I can!! The only negative thing is… they ain’t open 7 days a week. I’m sad, but I’m ecstatic that they’re here!

So I had Cali Jays when they first opened up. I love BBQ and saw they had Brisket, and was stoked! They unfortunately run out of brisket alot, which is okay, I get it, it's good. They were also out of French fries that day, kind of odd, but that's okay, switched gears and got the Mac and cheese and beans, and also got the coleslaw to try. The Mac and cheese was lacking flavor and it has an odd gritty texture. The baked beans were fine, nothing special. The coleslaw was basic. So we stopped going because for the price, I expect better food quality. So tonight we decided to give them another shot. Thinking the honed in the recipes. Well, once again no brisket, so I got a chicken sandwich which was fine, but I feel like it got smaller? Different bun? My husband got the burger which he really likes. I got the Mac and cheese again, which was still lacking flavor and gritty. We also got the garlic parm fries, this was the worst thing of all. I expected some chopped garlic and some yummy parmasean on some fries, but instead I get about huge blob of jarred garlic with its wet tangy water juice all over my fries, ruining them completely. Didn't even taste like garlic. Definitely disappointed.
