Wonderful, as always! The food and service is quite good. Matt and his team took super good care of us.

Very creative plates with a good blend of excellent technique and inventive flavors. Try the chef's tasting menu if you can. To top it off, every member of staff was very professional and warm.

We have been fortunate enough to dine at many wonderful, highly acclaimed restaurants, from the casual to those with stars, and had many memorable experiences over the years. Against this history our evening at The Matheson was truly special. We had not even walked in when it began; a host opening the door for us while we were still 10 feet from it. The next two hours were a case study in how to provide an outstanding dining experience. It could be summarized simply by the adage "love people, cook them tasty food," but many restaurants forget that ultimately food is about connection, and that hospitality is about showing people you care, not just with delicious things to eat, but how you tell them about it, how you serve it, and the heart and soul that is evident in a team that truly loves food, wine, and drink, and the special opportunity they have, which the may never get again. Yes the food must be good, and yes the service must be timely, and yes the stemware should be polished and the flatware clean, but you can have all those things, and your guests may forget the evening. If you do the little things though, a simple word of welcome, an enthusiastic and accessible explanation of a preparation, a glass of wine, or the way the food is prepared, your guests will understand how much you love food, and hospitality and that will make all the difference in the world. Our evening at The Matheson will remain in our hearts for all these reasons, and more, and we cannot wait to return.

The quality of food and wine as well as table service was outstanding. Not only I would go back, but also I have been recommending to my friends at home to go to the restaurant on their Sonoma trip and enjoy the food and the service ever since I have been back home!

Table 6. Appetizers were the best we had in Healdsburg.. Service was excellent. Steaks were served at the right temperature.However, did not seem to be seared correctly which led to an odd consistency and flavor. Sole was delicious. My burger was overcooked not medium rare that's really not enjoyable. Desserts were perfect and tasty. Did a b y o b and sommenier was very cordial.

The entire service staff with whom we interacted was very welcoming and we were given an anniversary card signed by staff members, which was a very nice touch. The food was very good but we wished the menu had a few more selections. The ambience was lovely. We would go there again.

We went to The Matheson for a birthday celebration and it did not disappoint! The team there was extremely welcoming and engaging. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing. I will absolutely be returning any chance I get.

While our waiter Adam was attentive and the food was decent for the price, the restaurant's operations were chaotic. The Matheson (Christy) called late morning on the day of our reservation — booked over two months in advance and fully prepaid for six prix fixe menus — to say they could no longer honor it due to an 8 PM private event. Our reservation was for 6 PM, and they claimed the five-course menu would take three hours, leaving “insufficient time.” Instead of offering alternatives, they initially suggested we switch to à la carte. We had flown in as a party of six to celebrate a milestone birthday — which they knew — yet they tried to cancel just hours before. It was too late to book another fine-dining restaurant in Healdsburg. After much back-and-forth and little initiative from their end, I proposed starting earlier at 5 PM to make it work. Only then did they agree to keep our prepaid menu, but not without unnecessary stress and frustration. The billing process was equally disorganized. The check ignored our $809.96 prepayment, and staff couldn't clearly explain the true total. They added a puzzling 3% “menu fee” said to support COVID workers — years after the pandemic ended — and included it before applying a 20% service charge and taxes, effectively double-charging customers. The per-person price also inexplicably increased from $100 to $110. For a restaurant aspiring to Michelin standards, this was a glaring lapse in professionalism, transparency, and integrity. The lack of coordination, accountability, and guest respect overshadowed what should have been a memorable celebration.

The best sushi of my life. My family went here and was stunned by the quality. Each fish was interesting and unique in flavor with a melt in your mouth texture. Additionally the atmosphere and custom drinks, palate cleansers, and dietary changes felt so special. We all left feeling amazed and blessed by a truly special meal.

Top quality, expensive sushi and sake. But not the best dining experience. The service was a bit pretentious, rigid, and overblown. (Except the sommelier was great.) Not good at accommodating disabled customers, it was difficult to navigate with a walker, and the acoustics were very poor.
