We were looking forward to dining here. Three people ordered burgers, and the Wagyu beef was just simply inedible. The pasta was overcooked. The caviar was good. The dessert was good, but didn't have a candle for the birthday boy . Overall a disappointing experience
The Matheson consistently delivers wonderful service, food, and cocktails. We were celebrating our anniversary and they really went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and special. The food was beautiful, fresh, creative. Everything we've come to expect from this wine country fav.
We greatly enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant and the chef's table was fun. Unfortunately, the kitchen was behind and we waited an hour for our salads and nearly 2 hours for dinner. To make matters worse, next to us was a food critic who was served multiple courses while we waited. The owner came by asking if we were “enjoying the show” but didn't acknowledge our long wait. While I hate to leave a negatives review, I was very disappointed with how we were treated.
Food was delicious server was funny attentive and very knowledgeable about both the wine and the food... wonderful experience
We celebrated our anniversary at Matheson on Monday and it was fabulous. The food was amazing and we loved sitting at the chef's table watching them prepare our meal. Happy Anniversary was written in chocolate on the tres leche dessert plate. A perfect evening
The Matheson is a great place to have a celebratory dinner. It's a beautifully designed restaurant inside, making a fantastic impression the moment you enter the door. It's a bit on the expensive side, but the food is made to impress. The waitstaff are all very good at their jobs. It's not the Go-To place for every occasion, but if you have something special, the Matheson is your place.
Hats off to The Matheson. An understated building right off of the downtown Healdsburg square, this restaurant takes over a large portion of the block, but you would never know. We started off at their rooftop bar, Roof 106, for drinks before dinner. This is a happening place, so make sure you either have a reservation or come early, otherwise you may be waiting for a bit. For dinner, we opted for the Chef's Counter to make it extra special since we were celebrating a birthday. From beginning to end, the staff treated us with a balance of family and elegance, always there for a friendly recommendation but keeping an eye on every detail. We did the Chef's Picks, which if you can, I would HIGHLY recommend. Over five courses, we were able to watch the kitchen at work and appreciate every bite and course. In tasting menus, you worry, will it be enough food? Will I like all the courses? Will I need a hamburger at the end of this? This was the perfect balance of rich and light, full but not engorged. And we can't leave out the wine! Their 88-bottle wine wall is a sight on its own, but their selection is nothing small or short of impressive. If you have the opportunity, do the wine pairing. As big wine fans, the wines we maybe were hesitant about were perfect with the food they were paired with. Seems intuitive, but often not always the case. All in all, thank you for making this birthday celebration extra special and 'wow'ing us. We cannot wait to come back again.
Have been wanting to dine at The Matheson for a long time! We had stopped in and had a drink on the roof top and loved it. We took a friend to dinner and decided to try it out. Service was great from the Hostess to the Server. Food was really good, couldn't get my cocktail quite right but that was fine just had something else. The over arching issue was the loud music playing. I assumed it would be somewhat loud due to the high ceilings, however it wasn't that busy. The music was loud, electronic sound like you were out at a club. I love most music, and don't have any issue with music playing in the background however when it's hard to hear the people at my table and the style of music didn't really match with a dinner at a really nice restaurant it was just a bummer. We asked if there was a quieter spot, but apparently that section was closed. Waiter said they were going to change the music but it didn't really seem to ever change, We would go back but would not go for a fine dining experience. It seems a better fit with groups of friends for a night out.
If you want a good $350 meal for two, go to Starks.
If you want a halfway decent meal, a good ambiance, and to be treated like a human, go to Francis Ford Coppola winery. You may save some money, but not much.
If you want to waste $350 on two people and regret it, go here.
Staff is pretentious, judgey, and uppity. If you don’t wear a 3 piece suit, you’re not treated very well. I wear suits for work, so why can’t I wear a carhart shirt and enjoy a meal? I would have been happier had I just been denied and told there was a dress code. Then I might come back.
The place looks like a scene from the movie “The Menu” which is a horror film.
The “chef” as they like to nonstop refer to him/her/they, obviously went to chef school, maybe CIA, and just fell in love with flavors, using an insane amount of them. I get that these flavors are exciting and that you can enhance flavors ten fold with other ingredients, but this was over the top and the flavors are too much. “Chef” needs to go to the willowwood and taste their hollandaise sauce, or go to Starks and taste their free bread. That is how subtle flavors will win over most people. Maybe food critics like this over the top taste, but it’s too much. Hopefully this critique doesn’t get me on “The Menu 2.”
Why I say judgey: I have been on the roof a few times and it seems like they have a completely different menu and vibe. I love it up there. The food is great and so are the staff. I tried to take my wife here for a date night but was not allowed upstairs.
I asked for outside thinking it would be the roof. Nope. It’s in the back. We should have left but we tried it. For a $350 meal, this place is no good. We are sat in a back alley, the staff treats you like crap, until you spend $350, and then magically they invite you upstairs to go on the roof. They told me the roof was full when I got there and they put me on a waitlist. They said no, it’s too full. So now that you see I can afford my dinner I am allowed to go upstairs. I just went to the Final Edition where I can feel like I am wanted as a guest.
To clarify, the server was very good. He was actually the only non-judgey person there. This is NOT a reflection on the one server who helped us. He is amazing. He went out of his way to make the night bearable. It was literally everything else.
I worked in restaurants for about a quarter of my life. I almost never bash restaurants. This place is just not for me. This is the vibe I expect at a Lamborghini dealership. If you want to feel rich and are willing to dress nice for this night, this is your place. They will treat you like a million dollars.
One of the more upscale restaurants on the square but worth a visit while in town due to the great food and ambiance. Be prepared to spend a little more but enjoy yourselves because this restaurant is a good experience.

Great stop in Healdsburg with delicious cuisine, warm service and a cool vibe. Glad we made a reservation for Sat: most walk-in small and large groups were turned away swiftly and the bar was standing room only. We sat at the chefs counter and enjoyed seeing dishes come flying off the line to preview what we should order. Everything we had was tasty, the right temp, and served relatively promptly. Drinks were a bit slower but it was a busy time, and cocktails were balanced and unique. They have a very cool wine preservation program, which we did not take advantage of trying some hard to find wines, but will next time. Our server Nico was thorough, warm, and had great recommendations. Overall dinner met the high expectations and would definitely return.
Service is great, so is ambiance; but the kitchen is just foisting everything in salt. For $300, I left with a mouthful of salt, that is the only flavor across 6 dishes. Shame on the chef.
This was my first time to the Matheson. Food was epic, service was phenomenal. All the dishes had unbelievable flavor with deliberation and execution. The wine list is wonderful with options ranging from domestic and old world. I will be back.
What can I say , I read about tge beginnings of the journey these two brothers took .
Came to Headlesburg to discover their wuest and what they have created .
I was not able to visit Vallette , however I had two evenings visiting Rooftop 106 and Matheison .
Its just awe inspiring entering the space ghwy have created , the atmosphere and ambiance service are outstanding.
I have to mention a young lady Jessica, she runs the front, greeet you and checks you in ,
My observation over the two visits was how hard this young lady was working , cleaning and setting up tables for the next guests besides running the front, the bar was also run by an incredible ypung lady , all the cocktails , I had three were mixed very proffesionaly.
Than the food yhat We ordered was just satisfying, prepped perfectly and presented pleasingly.
What an amazing experience.
Couldn’t think of a better place to spend a birthday! Hands down the best service in all of Healdsburg and Santa Rosa. Every single server, host, sommelier stopped by the table and had kind, caring things to say about us and our kids. They knew it was my birthday and gave me a handwritten card signed by their entire staff. They were so sweet with our children, whereas a lot of fine dining establishments can look down on bringing kids, and the owner even came by to say hi. He was so kind and personable and also knew it was my birthday. Amazing hospitality. They also have a great N/A bev list. I’ve got to try their N/A Pinot next time. Wish they had it by the glass. Thank you to The Matheson for a great memory! We’ll be back!
