Go to Punjabi Rasoi if you want Authentic Punjabi Food! I usually am not very easily impressed with food and don't write a postive review unless I had an overall great experience, which includes, the quality and taste of food, ambience, cleanliness and most importantly service. We have dined there twice. And had requested for the food to be made as per my special dietary needs. I was quite impressed at how well Rajni and Sunny paaji handled them despite a very busy evening... the restaurant was packed. They made sure that I was fed and fed well! My daughter and husband thoroughly enjoyed every dish we had ordered. The food served is Aurhentic punjabi and the best I have eaten in a very long time. I am a punjabi who grew up in Delhi eating ghar ka khaana, and old dilli and Karol bagh Punjabi food and was highly disappointed in past where the food claimed to be Punjabi was neither authentic nor tasty at other punjabi restaurants. But Punjabi Rasoi has changed that for me. The dishes we ordered were- 1- Bihari Kebab- Succulent and perfectly spiced. 2- Dal makhani- creamy and honestly and was made without dairy for me on request 3- Chholey Bhaturey- the real ones...really good not the oil laden pooris which are often sold as bhaturas at other restaurants 4- Mixed vegetable pakode- super crunchy, delish and paired were the perfect condiment, green chutney 5- Dhaba style kitchen- home style, simple yet tasty and satisfying dish 6-Sarson ka saag- Very tasty! But I think it could be better. Also, I think I am comparing it to my mom's.. haha...yeh dil maange more! 6- Makki ki roti- Perfcect taste and texture 7- Jaggery and Pickle- Pickle came with Bhaturas... it took our taste experience up a few notches! And I asked for some jaggery to go with Makki roti and Sarson ka saag to have a complete Punjabi Rustic Culinary experience and it did the trick. 8- Lachcha parantha- Perfect layers and taste! 9- Moong Dal Halwa- it was to die for! It is one of my favorite desserts and I felt so emotional while devouring it! Haha 10- Best Service- we didn't order it but git the best service experience ever! Rajni, Sunny and their Staff is very welcoming, hospitable and will not hesitate going an extra mile to create a memorable experience for their customers. All in all a DELISH Experience! The restaurant is an overwhelming 3 hour drive from our home But I know that I won't ever settle for mediocre and will drive those miles to Punjabi rasoi for an extraordinary Culinary experience!

Drum Rolls- I've found my top 3 Indian Restaurant in Central Jersey! Yes, this is a hidden gem in somerset and they serve the most authentic, delicious and mouth watering dishes. If you have eaten here once, I can guarantee that you will come back here asking for more. They have plenty of parking outside and you can easily find a spot! One of the finest Indian restaurants in Central Jersey, they serve authentic north Indian food with panache! We tried several dishes and the winner were - Bihari kababs, sarson da saag, paneer tikka and chole bhature. The taste of the food is closest to what I've had in Delhi or Punjab. The owner Gurvinder serves everyone with a smile and is very friendly. Some of dishes are served so beautifully like sarson da saag on a manji and bihari kababs in a mini oven that it leaves you with a memory of a lifetime! Other items that are on our next visit list are - tandoori chicken, daal makhani and dhaba style chicken curry! During the summer they have a patio that is setup with punjab village theme, I can't wait for summer and experience the setup! I'd definitely be visiting again and ensuring all my friends and family visit this place!

Found this spot for punch with my sister in law and niece. Got there when they opened and were the first customers inside. It's located in a little plaza area and has parking. We ordered samosa, Garlic Naan, a goat curry dish, butter chicken and something else which forgot. Lol. Service was quick and everyone there was pleasant. The samosas were delicious..:crispy outside and quite filling inside. The naan was buttery and garlicky. Goat was very very tender and came with a lot of sauce..:.great when the rice can soak it up. We asked for not too spicy but I don't think it was spicy enough...still delicious though. The down side was since they just opened, it was freezing inside.

Some of the best traditional North Indian takeout in the area. Just authentic, fresh, and enriched with a generous amount of taste. I hadn't had it for many years, but the food is just consistent. We ordered Malai Kofta & Paneer Tikka Masala. It was so good I forgot to take photos. The Paneer Tikka Masala was more red than orange. That's when you know it's made pretty damn well. As always, there was plenty of food for leftovers to last a meal or so. Highly recommend.

This place is good for their food though they should work on their ambience and primarily on their service. Every order takes 45 minutes to prepare. I would agree there is rush days bit 45 minutes wait when you get to dine is way too much, and they don't have drinks...Anyways, its a good visit for the food taste if you can trade for the wait time...

The Yelp reviews drew me in to venture out to Somerset for a meal at Punjabi Rasoi. It's hidden off of Route 27 a little in a shopping plaza, but don't let that deter you from trying it out. The interior space isn't overly large, but substantial enough to fit about 20 diners before getting a bit loud and crowded. The mixed vegetable pakoras were decent, but seemed on the expensive side at $11. Same with the mango lassi at the steep price of $7. They were ok, but the price tag is a bit cost prohibitive for an Indian establishment which doesn't have a wow factor as a fancy/high end place. The prices for main dishes are in the $15-20 range which are in line with other places in the area. We ordered the chicken makhani and saag paneer. Both were prepared well and made a little in the lighter/healthier side without excess butter or cream in the gravies. Service was friendly and the meal was overall good, but for the price, I can comparable and somewhat better food in a more upscale environment at one of my go-to Indian restaurants closer to home.

My SIL stumbled across this place browsing through Yelp and we decided to give it a try for a early lunch. They had just opened at 11:30 and it was pretty chilly inside we had to ask for the heat to be cut on. We were greeted by a gentleman which I believe was one of the owners He was very nice and allowed to pick our seats . We browsed through the menu using a QR code. They have a pretty good selection of dishes both vegan and meat dishes. We started off with samosas which were delicious especially with those yummy sauces . We ordered 2 chicken and 1 goat dish they were good but was expecting a bit more spice in two of the dishes and the portion sizes although shareable if you just want to try each one but definitely on the small side for the prices. $18-$20 or so for the average dish . But the dishes in general had good flavor but like I mentioned before I was looking for more spice .

Have been eyeing this spot for a while as we pass this spot every time we drive on Route 27 & Yelp reviews were also quite promising. The time finally came around Diwali as we planned to eat out but most places around were closing early . We lucked out as Punjabi Rasoi was not super busy & they were open till 830pm. We walked in around 7.40pm and were immediately seated. Our waitress was Jass and she was extremely adept at taking our order. Quite meticulous & affable! The menu was interesting with some variety for an Indian restaurant . We started off with a few appetizers Gobhi 65 , Tandoori Paneer Tikka , Chicken Tikka Kaati roll with Fries & Bharwaan Aloo Tikki Chaat . We had to order our entrees quickly as they were closing early for Diwali. We picked Channa Bhatura , Makki roti with Sarsoon ka Saag, Chicken Tikka Kulcha, Onion Kulcha & Paneer Burjee Gobhi 65 was the first appetizer to make it to our table . Everyone took a quick bite and relished it only to find out that it was Chicken 65. It was quite a mishap as we had couple of vegetarians in our group & one of them unknowingly tasted it. We informed our waitress about it & she took it on herself to talk to the kitchen & their owner. She profusely apologized for the error & made it a point to bring a fresh plate of Gobhi 65 which was deep fried golden goodness . Their owner Sonu personally came over & apologized again & brought out complimentary dessert for the table. The Chicken 65 vs Gobi was a grave error, but our waitress & the management took responsibility for the error & the damage recovery was definitely commendable, that it made us want to move on to appreciate the other good things about this place. Paneer Tikka - pillowy goodness with a subtle marination making it juicy & tingling your taste buds . Food come out in random order . Channa Bhatura was next followed by the Kulchas , Paneer Burjee , Chicken Tikka roll and last of all Aloo Tikki Chaat. Channa Bhatura - I had high hopes for this but the Bhatura was a bit dense almost like a Mediterranean pita bread. Channa masala was good but it didn't have the typical Punjabiwala Zaika that I was expecting. Chicken Tikka roll with fries- tender juicy chicken enveloped in flaky soft paratha with crispy onions & some delectable green chutney . Fries were double fried , soft inside & crispy outside served with ketchup . Makki Roti Sarson ka Saag - the Roti & Saag was cooked to perfection & reminded me of eating at a Dhaba in Delhi. Bharwaan Aloo Tikki Chaat - Another action packed appetizer that scored on presentation, taste & texture. . The food was exceptional. The ambience outside & inside does not give you a fine dining feel, but the food is priced like one! They also add 22 % gratuity for a table of 3 or more . So be aware that dining here can be a pricey affair. I must make a special mention of our waitress Jass who made our dining experience memorable. She took care of our little requests & made us feel at home. If not for the Gobhi 65 mix up and Channa Bhatura that wasn't superlative , we enjoyed everything we ordered . I was deliberating between 4 & 3 stars but decided that it deserved a four star just because of how well we were treated & their customer service wowed us Don't be misled by their outside appearance. Walk in & try their food & you will catch yourself planning your return visit soon!!

Came here with friends about 2-3 months ago. Ive said this before and Ill say it again i dont have much experience with indian food, but holy crap. This was so good! We ate outside on a bench that was nicely decorated with cushions. The staff was notably nice and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. If nothing else, come for the food!

Wow, had the most amazing indian food. If you crave good authentic punjabi food like proper delhi food this is it, you should definitely visit. We were a party of two so couldn't try a lot of things but we had chicken tikka which was super amazing, spicy, fresh and then we had rogan josh I must say it is the best mutton I have ever had in NJ. We met the owner too, uncle's really nice and kept greating his guests, the staffers are very humble. Must visit!!

Pros- The food was good. Chicken 65 and paneer tikka is great. There were live karaoke singers on Thursday night which was fun. Outdoor seating is nice but could be warmer. Cons- Prices seems very high for the place and food. If reasonably priced, it could be a good restaurant.

The Punjabi Biryani was not so flavorful. Bihari chicken was good but felt bit undercooked. Outside seating is nice.
