I always expect things from Southeast Los Angeles to be very, very good. Today we came to a bakery that we heard good things about.
Inside it looks and smells like the real deal. The selection is great and the place is really popular. They sell tons of pan dulce, tres leches cakes, flans, and tamales, etc. Even champurrado.
I tried their Empanada de Piña (pineapple empanada or turnover) and it was disappointing. Empanadas de Piña are my favorite pan dulce. It looks beautiful from the outside but I did not really like the filling. The bread is ok but the filling isn’t that great. The filling color isn’t right. It’s too yellow. The flavor isn’t right.
The champurrado wasn’t very good either. Too thin and not very chocolatey.
They are in a huge parking lot.

I ordered a cake for my mother's birthday, ordered a week and a half before the actual date so the bakery could have enough time. I added reference photos plus photos of my mother for them to print out to help them understand what I wanted and paid $60 so I was hoping for an OK not show stopping but an OK cake. The week comes and I go pick up my cake and a bland white cake with one image of my mother is on it. I asked the worker who gave me the cake if this was all and if they can add any border. I was told it cost extra to add that..... So I left and bought another cake from a supermarket nearby ($25). Let me just say don't waste your money or your time.
