My last National Guard Annual Training in 1976, we drove APC’s from Camp Roberts to Hunter Liggett and fired Mortars at the Range for 3 days and slept in the field. Rattle Snakes galore. Still, at my age, great memories.
Everything a Soldier needs, nothing a Soldier wants - CG
While visiting mission San Antonio de Padua stayed at the hacienda lodge both on fort hunter-liggett. The experience was phenomenal. Handicapped, I was still able to enjoy it all greatly. My little dog, Jackie Blue, service animal, also had a great time. All the folks we met were the best. The staff at the lodge are superior to most all the folks at the commercial hotels I stayed at elsewhere on this trip. Hats off. Frankie at the mission is a really special person. We chatted quite a bit, and she excelled at helping us find the perfect gifts for my friends and family. The museum is amazing, clean, informative, and very well kept. I've charged my youngins to go visit as soon as can be arranged. I'm past my shelf life by a fair bit. The mass I attended had a beautiful impact upon me. It's been awhile. the history of the environment is palpable. Don't be expecting the attainment of the pursuit of comfort. It is a challenging endeavor. Arid, rustic, and thoroughly amazing. Pack food, as eateries are limited. The cowboy rooms in the lodge are perfect for the ex military/ roughing it bunch. But they do have very nice rooms if you can navigate stairs. Parking is super great. Views of the valley are worth the stop even if just passing thru .
Typical military/Army National Guard training area. Small px, about 30min off the freeway. Hot, trees, brown grass everywhere, do army stuff!
Excellent DFAC
Came here for an FTX with the Army reserves for 2 weeks, and as my 1st time being here, I realized that on the outskirts of the base there are certain dead zones where there is no signal to communicate to anyone. I always have to make a trip back to the base when i can or walking to a certain spot in our area to get a single bar, it was days where I could not speak to anyone because of that, which is why im giving it 3 stars. Other than that, the base is decent. Their barracks are good. They have 1 barracks for the females and 2 for the males, at least for the ORTC BN. They have a gym/basketball court, track, and swimming pool. Their recreation center is small, but it has a big movie room, 1 game room, 1 music room, pool tables, and an arcade room. Next to it Is subway Their bowling alley is small as well with a food bar inside. The Px is medium size , and the commissary is small. They have a huge laundry mat with plenty of washers and dryers, which was very convenient and free. Lastly, the DFAC, from what i have been told, is fulfilling, and they give a great amount of food and beverage. A library is here as well. Everything is within walking distance. It's surprising that they only have 2 food spots on this base, so definitely keep that in mind when coming here.
FedEx and UPS currently have a class action claim against one of the officers that keeps harassing the drivers. Since this is a federal military base and 3 well known companies like FedEx and UPS and the postal service are mistreated and harassed. This is going to be on the 6 o'clock news along with CNN nation wide news within two weeks since it's a military installation.
I'm neutral about this installation....not much to do...everything is very far if you're able to get off the post
I was a M60 gunner at Fort Ord. We would get on Blackhawks and be droped off in Hunter Ligit Ligit Ligit Ligit. Be there for 20 to 30 days at a time. Walked from Highway 1 to Ligit the first 8 miles was up hill. Went over the wisord on a 100 mile road march. Always did a tarantula check befor laying down. Got 1 shower and 1 hot meal in 30 days. C317 light infantry lead by First Sargent Williams and Captain Humphries. Two great comanders who were hard as hell always. Never quit we own the night light fighter. Was so incredible living there no tents or covers just dig in. This place was our second home. Only place that was better was Fort Howard Panama. We would go there for three months every year for jungle school. The last trip was to invade Panama. Hunter Legit prepared us and Captain Humphries kept us alive. What a great place to train. The nights were so incredible. I have never seen so many stars so bright. This place is the old west dusty, dry and hot. If you go bring guns and knives. Its legal and you my need one to save your life. Stay alert stay alive.
" Enjoy " ??♂️

Preston is an amazing guy! Gave an excellent tour of the gym due to it all being in separate buildings. Very respectful and nice.
I was stationed there for 18 months, 1984 into 1986, great duty station. Really nice drive out the back of the post and down to route 1 along the ocean.
Spent a good amount of time here in 2011 in tent city (training area) . I was literally the only generator guy for the entire base area I was at so I had to service 53 generator units while I was there. Rained most of the time when I was there so it wasn't the greatest. Nice scenery, not very fun though.
