It is very sad that the owner of Half Day bought this café a couple of years before the pandemic and began to run it into the ground, and continues to today. Before this owner, HD was very popular, with 45 min waits for a table, good food, clean and a very charming patio. That is all gone now. HD is dirty, shabby, mediocre food at best, no charm left in the patio with its tent and dead plants. Bathrooms are filthy dirty. Walls are dirty. It is really sad for so many of us who used to go there at least twice a week. Why does someone buy a restaurant only to ruin it? Smh.

I have been wanting to try Half Day Cafe for quite some time. I had brunch around the Holiday's with a dear friend. The food was delicious. I had an oat milk latte and the breakfast panini with hash browns. The sandwich has eggs, spinach, ham and cheese. The ingredients are simple, but the flavor combination was excellent. Plus I love panini sandwiches. One thing I want to mention is it is extremely loud when it's busy. I came on a Sunday and it was a full house. I could barely hear my friend. She also has hearing issues so it was difficult to hear each other. Besides parking on the street there is a parking lot behind the restaurant. The entrance is a little confusing since it's in the back.

Had not been here for many years, but recalled it was an enjoyable place with decent food. A 3 to 4 star experience.Sad to say, but it's really gone downhill to virtually the bottom. They brought wooden handled knives for the eggs Benedict that were literally broken. The blade was dangling in the handle because one of the rivets was gone. The handles were in terrible shape as well, to the point of being rotten. The food was as horrid as the condition of the cutlery. The eggs were not poached well, and runny. Ham was not good. Muffin was undercooked. Hollandaise sauce was white and tasteless. Hash browns were mushy like mashed potatoes.....The burger was worse than a horrid burger we had at a Black Bear Diner. Same odd textured and chemical tasting beef patty, but the bun was old and gummy and the tomato and such were tasteless. No flavor except for the odd meat. All four of us swore never again for this place.Hugely dissapointing.

I've been here a few times. They're pretty busy all the times I've been there for breakfast/brunch. The place is pretty big. The wait has never been too long and the staff has been nice. It's convenient if you take classes at the Marin Community College, as it's literally less than a block away. There's parking in the back but it gets full fast. You can try and find street parking (which is often limited to time) or pay $4 to park in the Marin Community College lot...and not worry about getting ticketed. I always heard the scones were popular here but every time I went they were sold out. Surprisingly, they had some when I went. These were HUGE! They were more like mini loaves. They came with softened butter that had a hint of orange or apricot (reminded me of the taste of jam). Unfortunately, I thought these were just ok. They were too dry for my taste. I had cut these in half to split amongst the table and it crumbled a lot. Our table ordered the veggie/tofu scramble & 2 eggs w/bacon and hash browns. The hash browns were cooked just right. A little crispy on the outside and not dry on the inside. All the dishes were good. I forgot to take pictures of the main dishes but will add next time I go again! I would come back here again if my friends and I were finding a place to get together and have brunch. It's always bustling with customers.

For vegans the menu is a bit challenging. I usually get the tofu scramble with no feta and ask that no dairy be used in cooking. Wish the restaurant would add some other vegan choices since I would go more often!

Unfortunately it just wasn’t very good. I want to like this place, but the menu and quality of the food needs to be re-evaluated, especially in regards to the Benedicts’. Putting a small pouched egg with watered down hollandaise on top of an overcooked peace of ham and a stale English muffin just doesn’t do it for me. Not to mention that there’s no veggies or tomato or anything else included. In short, it’s far from its heyday, and I hope the best for the owner and staff, and hope that they find a way to revamp and improve this place.

I've been going to Half Day Cafe for over 20 years. I know the ownership has changed throughout the years. I was there for lunch with a friend and we were served promptly and it was a good meal. We paid and my friend and I were still visiting and talking. The waiter came up and asked us to leave because there were people waiting for a table. We were rather shocked to be asked to leave as we hadn't been there even an hour. We left but felt offended to be asked to leave. This is not the way to do business and keep the customers coming! I think the owner better think twice about asking customers to leave!

Did this place change owners? Food is barely edible. Ordered Eggs Benedict with hash browns. Potatoes tasted like they were cooked on a grill with bad oil. The Eggs Benedict come without traditional paprika and fruit on the side. Hard to cut through the muffin. This is my second try with this restaurant and both times in 2023 it was really pretty bad. We used to love coming here but no more.

A cut above all the rest- Half Day is my "go to" Brunch spot in Marin. I love that they don't charge a lot extra for gluten free or vegan options like some other places, the ambiance is unbeatable inside and out, the service is great, and the food is consistently delicious!

Consistency great food and service. This is my go to breakfast & brunch place. The patio is dog friendly too. Love this place!

The great food we were served, was delivered to our table the fastest that we have EVER been served, EVER! The hot chocolate was rich and delicious. The orange juice tasted fresh-squeezed. Both our dishes were delicious, and cooked exquisitely!!!
