Came here a few months ago for a celebration. Hubby and I both ordered the filet mignon and the waitress had a difficult time taking our order. Husband asked for medium rare and she began on a color code dialog, saying okay pink. Husband told the waitress no, medium rare. After a 10 minute Abbott and Costello skit, Hubby said to let the chef know medium rare and he'll know how to cook it. 20 minutes later, our dinner plates arrived and hubby's filet was well done! Ugh, we had the waitress take his plate back and redo it explaining once again that medium rare is where it has a nice brown sear on outside with red color on inside not pink or brown. When I had finished with my dinner, husband's dinner finally arrived. He cut into it and it was perfect. We asked for a to go box and took his dinner home. I want to add that the weird looking waitress, not exaggerating, she looked like a funky monkey, was blatantly flirting with my husband and acted like I didn't exist. She was very RUDE and disrespectful towards me.

I was late to discover Red Onion. We brought friends here for dinner the first time a few years ago. Since then, I come here often when visiting the lake. I’ve eaten here enough times to say that the quality of the food isn’t an accident. I’ve NEVER had a bad meal at the Red Onion. The menu is full of creative dishes that I’d never order at any other restaurant, but Red Onion makes them delicious. It’s really the only place to get a GREAT steak. Yes, you can get a steak at other places in town, but not a GREAT steak. Perfectly cooked. I’ve ordered steaks between medium and well and they’ve never missed. I cut into the steak and get exactly what it should be. This place is totally underrated. Plus, they’re open during the winter. So, if you live up here or visit year around, we should really support the businesses that are here for us all year and not just tourist season.
