**⭐ 1 Star** **Unacceptable Service Experience on My Birthday**
I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Medrano’s Mexican Restaurant on 20th Street West in Lancaster, CA on my birthday was deeply disappointing—and I feel compelled to share it, not out of anger, but in the hope that the owners take a hard look at their service standards and training.
I am 53 years old, retired after 30 years of service in trauma-informed communication and autism support in local schools. I’m now a full-time sociology student at AVC, focusing on organizational systems—so I don’t make service complaints lightly. Today is my birthday. My 67-year-old uncle drove in from Riverside, and my best friend, who just turned 53 herself and is recovering from breast cancer (and requires a walker), joined my husband and me for a celebratory meal.
From the moment we entered, the service was indifferent and dismissive. We waited awkwardly before being greeted, and when I mentioned it was my birthday, the host gave a flat, uninterested, “Oh good,” and moved us to a booth. We mentioned we needed easy access for a guest with a walker—no accommodations were made or even considered.
We sat for over 30 minutes with virtually no engagement. We had to flag down staff to get water (which came with ice after we requested none), napkins (we were given four), and even chips. The dismissiveness continued when we finally voiced our concerns. The server Alex told us that there wasn’t a manager and that he was part-owner of the restaurant. I was told better service might be available on “Wednesdays or Saturdays.”
What was most discouraging was not just the lack of basic service—but the complete absence of empathy, accountability, or hospitality. When I explained that I was simply trying to enjoy a birthday meal with loved ones, the server gave me a blank stare and an unconvincing, “Oh, I’m sorry.”
We ended up leaving and finding a nearby Chinese restaurant where the difference in service was night and day.
Medrano’s may be family-owned, but that doesn’t exempt it from responsibility. Hospitality matters. Your staff represents your brand, and if they are not empowered or trained to serve patrons with care, then experiences like mine will continue.
This review isn’t meant to bash—it’s a plea for **better training, better systems, and a reminder that kindness and attentiveness are not optional in the service industry.**
I sincerely hope the owners take this feedback seriously—not just for me, but for future patrons who deserve better.

Went in for Sunday brunch last time I’ve been there we used to go quite often till they charge me full price for a two year-old at the brunch he had a very small amount of fruit, maybe five pieces. I miss their food, but I will not go back.

They lied to my friend and said they would show footage of her scooter being stolen. They never did it’s been two months a police report has been filed. Very unfortunate that people lie and steal not okay at all. Since this situation I have stopped 10 people from coming to this location because clearly something fishy is going on here. Stealing from someone that came to support your business is wild. Smfh
The hard shell tacos are delicious. Plus they serve chips and salsa. But wait that's not all.... At this particular Medrano's they give a refried bean dip that has a slight kick of spice to get the party started. I recommend this restaurant, because the food is great, the service is awesome and the atmosphere is perfect for a solo lunch and drink or night out with the wife and friends. Enjoy
