Pretty good food with some nice touches and defects . Stopped for lunch in January. Entry through patio gate then back behind fence over the front of the building to the entrance door. Metal chairs outside and some covered. Outdoor heaters, but not running because we were the only diners at noon. Inside was quite cold with only one small floor heater plugged in the wall.
Food served on ceramic with metal utensils wrapped with medium weight paper napkin. On glass topped table. No music. Building interior is old and a bit beat and little decoration and mismatched furnishings. Full bar. We were seated and ordered at our table. Food prepared and served slower than average. No chili rellanos or pastor on this Monday noon.
Chips and salsa provided with one small basket of hard dark chips that tasted good and a thin red sauce with a bit of pico mixed in that also tasted good, finished quickly. No other sauces in bottles nor a self serve condiment bar. We tried to warm ourselves by the groaning electric heater. There was a nice mural in the restroom.
We had a pork chimichanga dinner and two cheese enchiladas ala cart. The dinner came with green sauce, guacamole, and crema in small cups and a medium pile of lettuce. The enchiladas came covered in green sauce and lettuce. Everything tasted good except the pork filling, which had a slight rancid oil taste unfortunately distracting, but not bad enough to not eat it. Not sure where the taste came from, the deep fried tortilla was fine. The pork was laced with cheddar that also seemed fine. The rice was unusually yellow but tasted good, saffron we think. The refried beans tasted good and a bit porky and were sprinkled with nice white crumbled cheese.
The cheese enchiladas were folded with white cheese inside and one slice of orange cheese outside each. The flavors were good and heat level was medium low for both the red and green sauces.
By the time we finished there were two more tables. The second table was served more quickly than ours, regular diners who know what they wanted, hamburgers.
Might stop here again.

Just an honest review of our experience at La Casona. We dined in for lunch and unfortunately the experience wasn't what many other reviews promised. Yes, it took absolutely forever like many said but the quality of the food just isn't there either. The chips are made in house, very thick and cooked uneven so a lot of chew factor going on. Wish I would have known that before I ordered the nachos, they were hard to eat! The carnitas on the nachos were good and the cheese was melted perfectly. Way too many beans though, the properly cooked chips got soggy way too soon. Hubbies chicken was so dry it was inedible but he enjoyed the chorizo and steak. Not sure why everything takes so long, food trucks do it all the time and I've never waited 45 minutes for food! We were just passing through and it filled us up but we wouldn't return if in the area.

Great food and service. You can't be in a hurry, as all items are made to order. They are occasionally out of some of the menu as well. The chilli verde and pozole are as good as you will get anywhere.

Stopped here by chance while passing though laytonville. I heard the live music, turns out it was a band called Blue Luke trio. They were so good, I later learned I guess they've toured with some pretty big names.
Dustin the bartender and the restaurants owner really helped me out and we're super welcoming. Had some beers and enjoyed the band. Hung out with some cool locals here enjoying the night as well. Freaking awesome place and awesome people ❤️

We dropped in late Saturday night after driving Ave of Giants. We were still an hour to our hotel. They kicked in the grill and made two of the tastiest quesadillas. Thanks guys! You really saved the evening!

We were so impressed with this place! The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. We got flautas, enchiladas, and guacamole. The salsas are bomb. The patio is really nice with a large covered section, lots of plants, and is dog friendly! The folks who run it are lovely. It's not fast, but it's worth the wait!

Our little town is so lucky to have this gem of a Mexican restaurant! The food is always amazing — fresh, flavorful, and made with love. Whether it’s the tacos, enchiladas, or their ridiculously good homemade salsa and guacamole, every dish hits the spot. The pozole is a must try!
The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff treat you like family. It’s the kind of place you keep coming back to because you know it’s going to be consistently delicious.
If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out — this place is a total treasure!

This is for real the best Mexican food I’ve ever had in my life. The pizole verde is out of this world. Chile relleno. Fresh made chips. Everything made from scratch. The outdoor seating is so cool and comfy.
