Wish she put "to go" order properly for the fish chowder dish that comes with the rice noodle. The purpose of my driving all the way to Loomis to pickup two orders of this dish along with another dish was so that I can enjoy a little bit of that fish chowder dish each day since I normally need to eat high protein dish and this chowder dish does not have enough protein for me.It is very tasty but I had to finish it off rather quickly in less than 24 hours (alone) because in the to go box, rice noodle was mixed in with the chowder and my plan to use wheat noodle instead was defeated. So if you plan to order that fish for To Go, make sure to instruct her to pack the noodle separately.

Incredible food, incredible personalized service. If you don’t know what to order she will walk you through the menu. Clearly passionate about their food, and love is the main ingredient. My new favorite spot!

We had:1. Curry chicken and potatoes. Tasty, but there were not many potatoes.2. Shrimp Pad Thai was excellent! Highly recommended.3. Tea salad, the house specialty, was excellent. Avoid if you have nut allergies.4. Black bean catfish had great flavor. The catfish is, of course, boneless. The texture of the fish was a bit mushy.*These dishes were eaten over white rice. There is plenty of parking and an easy to find location. The service left a bit to be desired. Definitely mom and pop. It seemed like Mom was waiting tables, and Pop was cooking. Service and food came out slowly. However, if you have time, the food was not bad & certainty easy on the pocketbook at this "Hole-in-the-wall" in Loomis.

I am leaving a 2 star review for a couple of reasons. #1 we did not really enjoy any of the dishes we ordered. This alone wouldn't normally inspire me to leave a review, as I know that many variables contribute to the way food tastes, and sometimes a place just has an "off" night. The other reason I'm leaving 2 stars is more offensive to me than the first; the menu prices are actually 33% higher than stated online. I thought I'd be paying around $45 and my bill was actually $70. I believe the owner should update the photos of the menu and the prices on the Google maps menu. As it stands, we felt mislead.

The Green Elephant is an AWESOME restaurant! Everything we've ever ordered is fresh, flavorful and delicious. Absolutely order the Tea Leaf salad - it IS SO GREAT! Another must have is the Chicken Chee-Chat Garlic Noodles - ohmygod YUM! You can't go wrong. The only staff is the owners- Rachel up front and her husband cooking in the back, and they have a limited amount of tables. Once their full, their full and you'll have to go back another night. We love The Green Elephant - you won't be disappointed!

We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We have eaten at other Thai restaurants and this must be what home cooking is like in Thailand.

Got back from a trip to Thailand and one of the experiences we had was how to make cold pressed coconut oil. The class included lunch and was Burmese. Fell in love with the Tea Leaf Salad and when we returned I had to find it near me. Found this place on a Google search and am so glad I did. We went there, unassuming, small place but with great service. The owner is the host, server and boss lady. Probably only one or two cooks in the back and keep that in mind. The food was amazing, fresh, flavorful and with a generous portion, we had leftovers. I had went back a few days later to get another order of the Tea Leaf Salad and the Curry Beef.

Easily the best Burmese food I've ever had, and I cannot recommend the Butter Chicken enough. It's calming inside and you're given time to truly enjoy the company you bring. I'd recommend making a reservation, otherwise go in and enjoy the incredible food!

This past Saturday night there was only one place that would do for dinner - the Green Elephant! We did our usual and called ahead to make sure she had room (this is a boutique-sized restaurant with less than 10 tables), and thankfully due to holiday parties and events in town, Rachel (co-owner) was having a rare quieter Saturday night. "How about no wait?" she said, with a smile you could hear through the phone. For the past 12 years, we make it a point to dine with her regularly. I use the term "dine with her" quite literally - far from the convention of a chain, it's a cozy haunt that doesn't promise fast but always delivers fabulous. She is amazing to watch - a one-woman whirling dervish welcoming you in, seating you, making expert menu recommendations (or cheekily agreeing with you if you're a frequent flyer), cooking the meals, and bringing out well-executed, beautiful, and simply delicious plates. We ordered some of our usuals and a few new items - two Thai iced teas with milk, butter chicken (to die for), teriyaki chicken (a more savory and refreshing take on the typical riff), roti for dipping (a must), and crab fried rice. While we enjoyed it all, she popped by our table to chat about her travels, new menu ideas, sushi-making, the challenges of being a truly small business, and more. It's like dining at a friends' home, you feel very welcomed. And somehow she managed that across four tables that evening, plus takeout customers arriving whom she greeted by name. As you'd expect with a maverick operation such as The Green Elephant, there are always folks who choose not to 'read the room' and understand the mystique of this special place. She isn't for folks who find even 'fast casual' too slow. She isn't about catering to customers fixated on timing, portions, or aesthetic. In the past, we too have been turned away if she was out of food or had no room to seat us - but we didn't immediately take to our phones to pound out a one-star review - you simply call ahead and manage your own expectations. So for those folks who conclude after merely one (or even zero) visits that they'll spend their 'influencer' cache by warning folks away - those aren't her customers, and doubtful anyone would like to dine with them either! Rachel loves serving people, and has prioritized keeping overhead low and quality high. She doesn't have staff as she prefers to personally stir her delicious creations. She serves her heart in every dish, and we should all slow down and take an appreciative bite with family or friends because her plates delight, surprise, satisfy, and keep us coming back. It's a blessing to this Loomis community - and worldwide really the more people compare notes to discover they too have eaten at this hidden gem - and we are thrilled that Rachel's tenacity has kept her thriving even through Covid and lingering recession impacts which have made running a restaurant an ongoing challenge. Her loyalists, including us, have rolled along with her, and as we told her as we bid her goodnight: "we want you to always cook for us!"

Green Elephant has been on my bucket list of places to try for MONTHS now. Finally made it in last night for an early dinner and it exceeded all expectations. Such a hidden gem in an older plaza. The inside is warm and cozy and very beautifully decorated. It's small, only about 10 tables, so we arrived just after 4pm when it opened. The owner was the waitress and she is such a sweetheart. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and personable. Let's talk food. Since it was our first visit, it was very hard to pick items as everything on the menu sounded delicious. We decided to start with veggie lumpia and the infamous tea leaf salad which the owner recommended to us. Man, by far the best salad I've ever had in my life. I wish this restaurant was open for lunch so I could have it all the table! Light, bright, and the most interesting blend of flavors. For our entrees we ordered Chicken CeeChat Garlic Noodles, Burmese Beef Curry (level 6 spicy), and Chili Jam Chicken with a side of steamed rice. It's really hard to pick a favorite between the beef curry and chili jam. Both were spectacular. The curry had the perfect amount of spice and tasted like an Asian beef stew. Chili jam chicken had a tad bit of spice and some sweetness. It's really hard to describe the flavor but I highly recommend ordering it! It's the restaurants own creation. We cannot wait to come back. My new favorite restaurant in the area and we will most definitely be regulars.
