Steak was good, service was terrible. Waitress forgot to bring ice tea, forgot bread. ( It wasn't busy so no excuse) Go somewhere else if you want a nice dining experience.

Outstanding atmosphere, service, food, and drink. The service was very attentive and nice. The food is always top shelf. We like hanging out at the bar with Annie and Gage. They run the bar like they own the place, crafting perfect cocktails, and entertaining us with genuine witty banter. Get the special, no matter what it is, delicious!

This review is long overdue. My wife and I go to the Tin Lantern on a regular basis. We continue to come back because the food is always excellent but even more important, the staff is amazing and always treat us like family. We moved up here from the city 2 years ago. We tried over and over to find a place like this in the city but it didn’t exist. Even Ken the owner has started to recognize us as regulars and always makes a point to say hello and thank us for coming in. We will forever be customers of the Tin Lantern not because of the food (which is great) but because they make us feel special every time we walk in the door!

WARNING! If you leave a negative review against Ken for being an abusive drunk towards a customer, he will contact one of your family members, trick them into meeting him, and he will tell them that he will sue you if you don't take it down!Ken, the owner, is a mean, violent, yelling drunk who assaults customers. He was drinking at the bar when I saw, and heard, him suddenly berating a customer for no reason. He started spouting off crazy stuff like "Trump told everyone to drink bleach!" (I have searched and found no such video, despite headlines online claiming this is true), and then Ken started demanding that the customer answer him on whether or not the customer thought the election was stolen. Ken even struck the customer's arms with his fingers, but Ken thought that because he had a smile on his face, that would make it okay. The customer looked like he was holding back knocking Ken's teeth down his throat, and I wish he did. I heard the conversation before Ken went off, and the customer did not say anything about any election or Trump or presidents or anything political. Ken is a typical Bay Area rich boy who never had to work a day in his life if he didn't want to, and then he moves up to the foothills and brings his bad attitudes with him. Every guy I've ever met who moved up here from the Bay Area to buy a business is just like Ken; insulting to anyone he doesn't feel is powerful in the community. And the quality of the food at The Tin Lantern has gone WAY DOWN since Ken took over. I miss the old days at The Tin Lantern.

My Cousins, Sons & decided to meet up for a holiday meal near Auburn, we always try to spend our money locally, so we decided to tryThe Tin Lantern-Thoughts before getting food poisoning from their Ahi Tuna Salad:The ambiance was provincial & cramped, the appetizers were ok & the mixed drinks were tasty & about $15+ each-Just like many restaurants post-pandemic, the meals were over-priced & standard fare,The wait staff wascomme çi, comme ça...Considering we were celebrating a Birthday, the waitress did not step up or acknowledge my 10 year old cousin's special day.My son got the ribeye steak, which was tasty, but nearly $50. He shared some with me & took a few bites of my Ahi Tuna.Afterwards, the nearly $400+ bill arrived for (2 children/4 adults)-Sticker Shock to say the least, but still, we left over a 20% tip.We left unimpressed & lesson learned...we thought...Then my eldest son & I immediately felt ill & were suddenly burping Ahi Tuna (never a good sign)-We were violently ill throughout a sleepless night where I was due at work & on the road at 5am. This work day could NOT be cancelled either. I assure you, working on location in rainy San Francisco the next few days trying to find restrooms every 30 minutes was not a good look.Since I ate most of the Ahi,I was sick for DAYS-I called The TL the following Monday, but no answer, so I emailed detailing the awkward situation. I asked them for a partial refund. They emailed back next day:"Can I get the last four digits of your card and I will look into this more thoroughly. Sorry you didn’t feel well. And I’ll get back to you tomorrow morning."'Sorry I didn't feel well' as if their food wasn't the culprit...Good Old Fashioned Gaslighting! That tomorrow turned into 15 days and my having to send 2 more status emails until finally they sent a message saying the following:"After waiting to see if any additional customers reported food poisoning symptoms caused by the Ahi Asian Salad on the day that your family dined at the Tin Lantern, it has been determined that there have been no other complaints of illness or food poisoning reported to us.All 11 Ahi Asian Salads sold that day, including yours, were prepared from the same shipment of sushi-grade tuna.Even with the safest sourcing and preparation of raw or seared seafood, there will always be a risk of food poisoning when choosing to consume it. With this fact in mind, we have done our due diligence by placing a warning at the bottom of each menu stating this.We are very sympathetic to the difficult symptoms you experienced over the holidays and are glad to hear that you are feeling better, however, there is no evidence that the symptoms you experienced were caused by our salad. We can offer you a $50 gift card.We hope that you will continue to dine with us in the future.Sincerely,The Tin Lantern Team"'It has been determined' they said!Their own Judge & Jury!As well as more Gaslighting, more lack of accountability, just customer blaming & shaming SMH!Should there have been an AHI TUNA disclaimer on the menu based on their response?...That they monitored anyone else's complaints to honour mine? Why would anyone want a $50 gift certificate to go in and eat their food again in hopes that they didn't get food poisoning a second time!?Bigger lesson learned-Shame on you Tin Lantern-The only power we have as consumers clearly when dealing with"The Tin Lantern Team" is to report them to the Health Department, write a review to warn future customers & never give them our money again-Well Alright Then TL,this was yours to win,but you chose losing instead ;(

My Burger was fantastic! My mom got the short rib special and it was ok. I had to ask for my cocktail twice, then they charged us for it twice. Then I got a cran soda with my entree and was never offered a refill. Overall food is good and restaurant is clean and hospitable.

2 times ive ordered take out and not only was it wrong, it was out right bad food... 2 times ive eaten in and had AMAZING food. Moral of the review... DONT GET TAKEOUT! The quality control here on take out is no good. The bartenders too busy overserving guests too pay attention to the food they are passing over and getting tipped on!!! No good!!! DO be sure to take a date or friend enjoy the wonderful dining in experience here. Be sure to request a table away from the overcowded bar with the local rich overserved young drunks that dont have anywhere else to get plastered in town.
