NEVER AGAIN!!
Very old fashion type of atmosphere and very clean. The food unfortunately was very mediocre. I ordered baby back ribs and sauce was bland and ribs fatty. I had side of potato salad (no bueno) and baked beans that just tasted weird. The garlic bread was pretty good though. Lover our server she was very efficient and helpful.
Good bbq ribs and chicken.
Try the all meat chili.
Born in the valley in the 1970s grew up eating at this place 70s 80s and 90s before I left the SFV. Came back into town for the weekend for a short visit to see family and friends had to stop by here and eat for the Nostalgia. Waitresses great very friendly place looked and smelled the same food seem to taste a little different though don't know if it's just because of my bad memory or times have changed but still love this place bought three bottles of barbecue sauce to take home
Always order the pork sandwich ob garlic toast. Beans delicious. I always ask for the sweet red bbq sauce.
Honestly, I’d have rather gone down to McDonald’s down the street. I doubt anything was made in house. BBQ tasted like ketchup and sweet and sour. I got the beef ribs. Too much fat on them. Beans, Mac, and toast all uninspired and bland. The waitresses were nice.
Took a random exit and discovered this bbq restaurant on my route to SB. I ordered a BBQ beef sandwich on garlic bread. Two sides chosen were beans and cold slaw. To my surprise the sandwich had a glassy grilled exterior and stacks of beef. Cold slaw sweet and tangy. Beans sweet but tasty. You have to balance what you eat because almost everything is sweet. But in retrospect I still have the bbq(spicy) in my memory bank washing it down with a Stella on draft. Highly recommend this themed interior restaurant. Wish they had a bear statue inside or maybe a deer taxidermy. 👍
Landmark.
This old restaurant would have been better if the staff were at least pleasant. The waitress was nice, but it felt fake. I know when I'm not really wanted. Don't worry, I won't be back! The food was bland! The meat portion was generous. If in a pinch, it can be taken home and seasoned. And put back in the oven. I didn't like the sides. We got all of them(except frys), between the 4 dinners. The best was the potato salad which they probably dont even make in the restaurant.
Still my favorite barbeque place. The Kodiak dinner with pork, sweet sauce on garlic toast can't beet it.

The sweet sauce is amazing, and I highly recommend a sandwich on the 🧄 toast.

Old fashion bbq. My family has been coming here nearly all my life, over 50 years. It's crazy to say, but I'm all that time, i always get the same sandwich, the Bear Pit Special on garlic toast. It is delicious!🤤
Any of their sandwiches are even more delicious with their garlic toast. Dang, I'm feeling the need to go again!

We live in new Zealand 🇳🇿, every time we head to California we go to the bear pit. Good old fashion BBQ. Best in town heads down👌
Definitely needs a little bit more salt to make it a five star but it's decent however it is very pricey
