We didn't eat at the cafe. We just visited the "city". It was different. I'm sure we will never see something like this again. There is a lot of people truly living off the grid in many different types of things. The museum was so different, these people have true imaginations, come up with many different ways to make art out of stuff. The man that greeted us as we were entering said the only rule was please no graffiti. As we were leaving I heard him talking to another person that a lot of people bring them stuff they are getting rid of and they make many different types of art out of it.

Ive been around this place alot and its certainly a good place to stop and take in the different people and their veiws on our times and life in general. Some pf the people are a bit harder to umderstand and so take it all in but with a grain of salt. Be sure to check out other places while in Slab City such as Mojos and Ponderosa and definitely hit up The Range and emjoy the music on Sat. nights, thats every Sat night at dusk the music begins and so does the awsome variety of people playing and their stories each telling their unique background of awsome tales. Never a dull moment in the Slabs and its Safe compared to maney places ive been.

A slice of Americana, some misfits, of course...feels safe though, and there's a lot of very nice folks out here just living life at the edge of civilization, it's a really unique visit, was worth the drive out. Please do not show up out here empty handed though! Beer, cigs, and cash are currency and water, old wood, and other construction materials will be appreciated and repurposed, if you have room in your truck then bring those items and water for the locals.

Free service provided to Slab City residents and is run off donations. They have public power to charge devices, but it is limited due to their inverter. Sometimes, coffee is available in the morning for a donation. As of late, they begun to offer cold beverages for donations as well. There are two downsides that are unrelated to the service: there is often drama and a bunch of flies. Be sure to donate if you visit to help them upgrade.
