Hopefully she was just having a bad day, but the front bartender by the exit was awfully rude at the bar (opening S). Everyone else was great, but we won’t be back.

Worst experience for tiki I have had. Not authentic look elsewhere. Don’t waste your time.

Place was empty & no line but blonde girl continued to make us, people of color, wait. No wheelchair accessible counter. Not worth the wait, not ADA accessible & the blonde girl had no clue whether the bar was ADA accessible.

This is the real deal when it comes to tiki. They got all the tiki hits, even the obscure one's. They even have a swizzle and you can keep the stick.

The oldest operating tiki bar in LA really delivers.

Parking in the back.

Just visited here for the 1st time last Sunday with a group. Love this place! Best tiki drinks in LA! I joined up for The Grog Log, so excited and will be coming here a lot now. UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS SOMEWHAT OF A DIVE TYPE BAR BUT BETTER, nothing fancy, so take it for what it is (in response to some of the bad reviews I saw). And I love it! Bartenders here are amazing at what they do. Highly recommend. And an authentic historical bit of LA, so throw on that Hawaiian shirt and check it out!

Tonga Hut, Los Angeles’ oldest tiki bar, is a treasure trove of nostalgia and creativity that defies the stereotypes of a typical tiki lounge. Far from being a relic of the past, Tonga Hut embraces its deep roots in 1950s and 1960s tiki culture while resonating with a post-punk sensibility that sets it apart in the vibrant L.A. bar scene.

The bar’s ambiance is a delightful fusion of classic tiki charm and modern edge. Adorned with vintage Polynesian Pop decor, Tonga Hut pays homage to tiki’s golden era. However, it’s not stuck in the past. The atmosphere has a vibe that attracts those with a penchant for both retro flair and contemporary, alternative culture. It’s a place where tiki tradition meets a post-punk aesthetic, creating a unique and inviting environment for a diverse crowd.

What truly elevates the Tonga Hut experience is its exceptional bartenders. They are true perfectionists who approach their craft with a culinary mindset. They’re not just mixing drinks—they’re creating intricate, flavorful works of art. Each cocktail is meticulously crafted with an eye for detail, from the selection of ingredients to the precise execution of classic tiki recipes and innovative twists. The result is a menu that delights the palate and adds a layer of sophistication to the tiki experience.

Whether you’re savoring a traditional Mai Tai or exploring one of their inventive signature cocktails, you’ll find that every drink is thoughtfully designed to offer a memorable taste experience. The bartenders’ dedication to their craft ensures that each visit is not just a drink stop but a journey through flavors and textures that are both satisfying and surprising.

Sad to say this place has fallen FAR downhill. For my first 8 years living in LA, was one of my very favorite bars. I even took my fiance there on our first Valentine's Day. In the year plus since living in the same neighborhood, three separate times walking over have all been a total dud. Came by for tacos one time, guy for that isn't there. Last weekend before moving out, I wanted to take my fiance there one more time, we walk over, 45-minute wait, "There's an event going on tonight." And now typing this review as I walk back from the THIRD try, this one was the most ridiculous! We show up, a guy in front of us, hostess comes up and they chat...for too long, going through some filing cabinet while we just stand there. Hostess finally gets to us, she looks like she hates the place too, says she'll seat us, but only outdoor. When I asked if we could sit indoors, "It's full." This is a Wednesday, mind you. Begrudgingly saying outdoor is fine, she then...just leaves us. Left after standing around another couple minutes while she was chatting with file cabinet guy. It's too bad COVID didn't put THIS place out of business.

Taco truck guy outside the venue got me sick. Lots of cross contamination and doesn’t use gloves when handling the food. Eat here at your own risk. Will definitely be doing a charge back and contacting the health department.
