Friendly, but slow service. The dinner food was horrible. Bland, over priced, and the portions were all over the place with some dishes massive (angel hair pasta and the chocolate torte) and the other moderate (salmon and broccolini and the burrata starter). They stopped serving wine flights at 5:00, so even the wine wasn’t a draw for dinner. Thankfully we paid using a gift card and not our own money. Sorry, but I’m not sure how this place has 4.8 stars. Maybe other meals are better.
We ate at Idle Hour for dinner and we absolutely loved it! Being from the UK we love our Mediterranean tapas-style food and this hit the spot. We had the chorizo, pork belly and carbonara sharing style and it was all delicious. A welcome change from other types of restaurant in the area
Took the wife and in-laws for a little wine tasting, and we were not disappointed. I would consider us as fairly ignorant of most wine pairings and flavors, but the small treats and "wine flight" were perfect for us. Glass prices were modest, and the staff was very polite.
If you go as a small group, you should be fine with a walkin. If you want to bring a group larger than 6-8, make sure to give them a call and accommodate. You'll enjoy the experience more.
I highly recommend Idle Hour winery and kitchen in Oakhurst. I found out about the winery when looking for a place to eat in the area on the Internet and I’m so glad I did. It was one of my more memorable meals. I had one of their wines, which was outstanding with a salmon dinner accompanied by a very large salad. I usually don’t have dessert, but, being gluten-free, I decided to try their flourless chocolate cake. I’ve never had one I’ve particularly liked, but I doubt that I will be able to resist that dessert the next time I go for dinner, although I will have to try their Sunday brunch next.
I wish I could rate Idle Hour higher than just 5 stars because they are just that exceptional!! My wife and I chose to host our dinner reception for our elopement on the patio and we couldn’t have made a better choice.
Jen was amazing to work with throughout the planning process and took the time to talk with us as we planned everything from Texas. She executed our vision perfectly and even provided linens for the tables and flowers that fit into our color scheme. She personally cut and served our wedding cake to our guests and provided a speaker so we could have music while we dined.
That was just the service. The FOOD was the star of the show!! Everyone raved about how amazing everything tasted. We had a grazing table set up for cocktail hour, then garden and Caesar salads, focaccia bread with butter and olives, then freshly grilled chicken, ribeye, and shrimp accompanied by asparagus, house made chimichurri, and smoked romesco for dinner. I cannot stress enough just how delectable all of it was. No one left hungry and I can also say that the leftovers were amazing as well!! We even went back a few days later to purchase a bottle of wine to save for our anniversary.
Whether you are in town visiting or looking for a lovely spot to host a private dinner, Idle Hour is a must!
Really tasty menu and delicious wines!
Please visit this place if you are nearby! My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch. We each got the wine tasting, spicy Margherita flatbread, papas, and the torte! Each wine in the tasting just kept getting better and the reds paired fantastically with the torte! The flatbread and papas were a perfect shareable size. We walked out a little tipsy and completely full. We can't wait to visit the next time we are out in Oakhurst again!
Fantastic stop in Oakhurst not to be missed. Locally owned and operated. Filled with heart, soul, and love. Great food & wines.
Stopped here for lunch after visiting Yosemite. Their wine and food are delicious! Excellent price on the tasting. They had nice dry reds that we liked. The server was friendly. Tables inside and outside. Plenty of parking. Would highly recommend!
Ordered the ribeye and chicken dish. Ribeye was not seared and waitress and did not ask how I wanted it cooked. Needed to ask for salt and pepper to have any sort of flavor. Chimichurri from Trader Joe’s had more flavor then house chimichurri. Tomatoes with the Buratta came from out of a can. Avoid, way overpriced. Could have made food that was much better myself.

Surprisingly mediterran restaurant with good food, wine and ambiance! We enjoyed every minute of it, and so did the cat??lovely soup, eggplant and salad. And the desert! Chocolate with olive oil, a daring and excellent combination!
The staff were very friendly and do a nice job. Unfortunately, the food was pretty bland and the atmosphere was a bit odd. There was a cat walking around, and there were several dusty cat beds sitting out on the patio, which we found to be off putting.
It would also be nice if the sharing size portions were optional, because you are stuck sharing the same thing or paying too much and potentially wasting food.
I think the idea is there, but maybe working on the menu and atmosphere/aesthetics could help the place reach its potential.
I am so glad I tried this little winery over the more popular restaurants in Oakhurst. The wine was delicious, the service was great. Burrata was fresh and filling, I would definitely visit again.
These guys are the best! Anne Marie makes the best scones. Super pleasure to have what they have to make. Thanks Anna!
Great place for a good meal and wine, especially after Yosemite
