So far I've had two pastrami sandwiches in a week from this deli and I have to tell you they keep getting better. I'm not even a big fan of pastrami but the pastrami here has me hooked. You got to try it even if you don't like pastrami because after you eat it, you will like pastrami. It's the best in town.

Cook could be a bit more friendly but then we saw his interaction with a few others and he was generous with payment leniency.Update 5min later: Claimed to have overcooked bacon on BLT. Offered money back but it’s better crispy on a BLT. Changed from 4 to 5 stars

I've tried to eat there six times now and have been successful only three. One time you had no pastrami the other two times including this one, you are not open (1:45) during your stated business hours. I will not try again , you have lost a customer. He this is another example of someone operating a business like a hobby. Suspect you will be permanently closing your doors soon. It's a shame though the pastrami sandwiches were excellent. I continued trying to come here even though the owner has zero personality and the restaurant's ambiance is also zero.

I'm editing because I went into this place and had such a weird and uncomfortable experience with the guy working there. The signage said incorrect hours, the place is already divey (which I usually am cool with) but it's also so cluttered and questionable looking. Again, all od this is kinda passable, but then their menu is butchered and half the stuff listed isn't even available, and the one guy there, go figure, is literally so uncomfortable and unsociable and bordering on impolite. It's just like literally, between this and the recent review updates from people who USED to love it but now have to sadly avoid it, I can see why it's empty as can be even when it's open. Just kind of a shame, but hopefully things can improve, or a better restaurant can take over the spot.

Great place, new guys really fixed things up a bit. Gotta try the pastrami

Came to have my typical pastrami, they're amazing. Noticed it wasn't the same ol' guys.....turns out they're retired and helped a friend of theirs start his passion of owning a food spot. Different guys but all the same produce and meat supplier. The sandwich was great. I got a BIG and it's still plenty of meat, I can only imagine the BIGGER. Thanks for tryin to keep up the legacy the last guys did. I'll be back to support a great local small business!

I only review when I'm either very satisfied or very unhappy. I was very happy with our Pastrami sandwich. It had cheese and grilled onions on a French roll.

Seriously the best Sando spot I've ever been to. The guy is super cool and we talked about liking spicy food and he gave me some great samples of some hot sauces I've never tried before. Been going back 2-3 times a week since I found this spot. They can't be beat! Everything is absolutely amazing

The fries look like they were sweet potato fries but it turns out they were just overcooked and stale. The BLT was burnt. Also, my to-go order didn't even come in a bag so I had to carry 4 styrofoam boxes out to my car and up the stairs to my house. Not a big deal, just an inconvenience really. $25 for 2 sandwiches & 1 order of fries- not worth it.The guy did give me a free salad and it tasted good so I'm appreciative of that.

We were the only ones in the deli when we ordered and it took over 30 minutes for 3 sandwiches and fries. The hot pastrami was pretty good, but definitely nothing special, same with the BLT, according to my husband. My daughter said her Turkey sandwich was good, but there was no lettuce on it (after we were told that it comes with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and mustard). I think they need to improve on the overall quality and speed of the food or they will not be in business long. I hate leaving bad reviews, but I'm just being honest with my experience.

By far the Pastrami Sandwich! Under new ownership and still the best around! Way to go T & J keeping great!

Stopped by to see what has changed and picked up a large pastrami to go. It was big and good enough that I ate 1/2 and will eat the other 1/2 for dinner. I think the new owner served me, it was lunch and he was working alone. Seems like a nice guy trying to make a go of it. Bernie's was an institution in Orangevale. Bernie and son had the routine down pat. It can't be easy taking over a legacy like that. Give him some slack folks, he needs to find his way forward and is bound to make some mistakes with his new small business. Consistent good quality in the food industry is difficult. You have suggestions, tell them. I hope things work out and they stick around.

I do not understand the recent reviews knocking portion sizing, perhaps there was some small goof when things were changing hands but as a first time visitor the BIGGER sandwich option was the size of my forearm and I am six foot two. Not only was it huge and well priced at $13 but it was FANTASTIC. When I ordered it the gentleman behind the counter asked me, "You sure you dont have anything else to do today?" And by golly he may have been right I think I am going to take the worlds nicest nap on my full belly of pastrami sandwich and call it a day. Cheers to the gentleman at the counter and both women working hard behind it! Service was polite and fast. Please give this place a go!

My husband introduced me to this place when we first dating. It was Bernie's then and I was very skeptical of getting a good lunch from this lil' hole in the wall in a run down strip mall. We ordered a pastrami and steak sandwich, both aHHHHmazing. Fast forward to couple weeks ago I had a craving for a sandwich and ran out to Bernie's. To my dismay, it was no longer Bernie's. There were 2 friendly young girls working, they said Bernie had retired but Tracy was running the place and everything was going to remain the same. "Ok, great! Give me a 'bigger' pastrami sandwich with extra meat!" Same sandwich we've ordered for years. I was handed my wrapped sandwich and although I couldn't see it, I knew it was different, it just didn't feel the same. I took it home and unwrapped what turned out to be a small pastrami sandwich. I asked and paid for extra meat and there was barely any meat, without cheese, without onions, without the char and the bread even seemed smaller. I miss Bernie, end of an amazing sandwich era. 2 stars because it wasn't awful, edible and the girls there were great but it isn't the same. I won't be returning
