I had a dream that there was an open-pit grill in the middle of my living room, with a master griller cooking delicious steak. Oh wait, that was the Tack Room.

It is not fancy but a very fun place to go. The food was excellent, I enjoyed their salad bar. Seeing your steak grilled right there is always fun. They were busy, still the staff was attentive and communicated that they would be right with us. And they were. I understand that busy can happen, letting us know is all that I ask. They really didn’t make us wait more than a few minutes. If you haven’t been there, you should go!

As a long time patron of the Tack Room this experience makes me not likely to return. I was a party of one on a Saturday evening and seated just prior to a group of 13 entering. The only server was focused on this group so I placed my order through the young lady grilling. She accommodated my dietary need but the halibut and grilled zucchini were barely warm yet, halibut pale and overcooked. Took myself to the bar for a cocktail and never saw our server until after I asked for the bill. Best part was the cocktail and baked potato, cooked perfectly and hot.

My favorite place to get a steak dinner. You get a great value for your dollar; the atmosphere is rustic but I think holds a lot of charm. I’ve never had a bad meal here, the steaks are well marinated, the grilled garlic bread is always delicious, and I adore their homemade croutons and blue cheese dressing they have at the salad bar.

I’ve paid the price of two Tack Room steak dinners for one at Creekside in Nevada City, which came with no salad, no bread, and charged extra for a scoop of butter on top of your steak. Their wagyu was overcooked, under-seasoned and full of gristle. I cannot recommend the Tack Room in comparison to other restaurants that serve steak enough.

I have been coming to the Tack Room since I was 6 years old. I’m 50 now. I love this place, The food and steaks are amazing and staff is wonderful. Living in Lake Wildwood and enjoying a great steak this is the place.

Best pork chops and steaks ever. Never disappointed. Reservation recommended. We usually ordered curly fries while waiting. Meals served with bread and choice of two kinds of soup or salad from self-served salad bar.

Steak was ordered medium rare, but served very rare ! Sent back to further cook, came back still raw inside. It took 20 minutes to seat us and take our orders, very grumpy waitress, did not check on our meal/drinks once. We are 30 year residents, but won’t be back !! (Almost forgot, a ‘service’ dog was allowed in during our meal… dog was a one year old Pug!?.. not very appetizing atmosphere!)

Great place, great food, great atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Love it. The bar side was cool as well. The bartender was really sweet and on top of drinks after dinner. Our party played shuffle board for a few hours after dinner. It was a good time. Definitely recommend it if around Penn Valley.
