I used to eat at this place years ago, and just remembered it, and how good it is. I was actually reminiscing of it like a long lost love. I’m at that age I guess lol. I love quality food that much. We have heard good things about Twelve 28 for YEARS, and finally ventured down to Penn Valley for our anniversary. The food and the service were exceptional, and the live acoustic guitar helped create a really nice atmosphere. The portions are generous and the pasta dish with artichokes and capers and lemon (new to the menu) was the best thing I've eaten in a long time. Thanks for a lovely evening, we will be back!

The menu changes regularly, so we love the adventure of seeing what’s new! Service superb, with a friendly efficient staff. This is a family owned and operated restaurant. Deserts are a must! This is my boyfriend and I's favorite restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries, or date nights because the food has never let us down, the service is amazing, and the beer selection is on point. They have a bit of a seasonal menu which I love because you can always count on a new dish or spin on a favorite when you go.
It's fine dining quality with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We've always had excellent service and even when I order dishes I'm not sure about, I end up loving every single thing on the plate.
I can't explain how every dish is just so perfectly crafted with a multitude of flavors that always seem to work together. They even made me like things I usually don't, like beets.
I highly recommend going with someone you can share dishes with because literally every single item I've ever ordered there, and some others have ordered, have been delicious.

When entering the restaurant, the atmosphere appeared to be noisy. However, after being seated, I realized that the ambiance was more quiet within our personal space.
The heirloom tomato salad I had at Twelve 28 Kitchen was the single best thing I've eaten in Nevada County since I moved here ten years ago. It was a religious experience.

Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. We took such delight in the flavors of the appetizer and wished we had not split it. It was so yummy. I had the chicken pot pot, the sauce was great and chicken cooked to perfection. Haley had the beef dish which seemed to melt in her mouth. We shared the carrot cake- our waitress was also named Haley and she was attentive but not interrupting. In all a great meal - we savored every bite, and wonderful service.

We moved up to Grass Valley a few years ago and have been trying to find a fave restaurant, but nope....nothing yet, until NOW! This place is not what you'd expect. The location isn't fancy, but they did their best to jazz it up. We weren't there for the location though, or even fancy ambience....we were there for the food....for the experience of EXCELLENT FOOD, AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE GOT!!! And, to top it off, the service matched the incredible food! If you're a foodie whose sole desire is to eat an EXCELLENT meal, then by all means this is THE PLACE! I am glad it's not right down the street, because I'd be there every week!!! GREAT JOB STERNER FAMILY!!!!

It takes a certain amount of money to keep a restaurant open. The prices being charged accomplish this fairly! To bring me back the food being served must have been eye candy in appearance, pleasing to my pallet in taste, yet allowed room in the stomach for desert. I will be returning!! But why then only 4 stars? One star is missing because the delicious and appropriately priced food was delivered on a 1.5 hour seating timeline. Consequently, I was not provided sufficient time to savor one dish before being forced to start on the next.
