This place had extra rude security guards. Made us feel unwelcome and killed the vibe of the night. Wouldn’t recommend, better choices in the area.

On arriving we got denied into the bar, which is fine!! My problem is the bouncer was extremely rude and told us he hates engagement parties or bridal parties. I went to a wedding two weeks prior and had the best time there. It just sucks to be told you’re “too much” when you chose to have your party in a place like Petaluma, I’ve obviously never had this experience in San Francisco and I know I never will :)

They won’t allow groups? We had 10 people show up on a post-wedding shuttle before 11pm and they said “no party buses” even though there were only a couple of us. So I guess get dropped off a few blocks away if you have more than a few ppl. We also had called ahead and gotten approval

This is hands down my favorite bar in Petaluma! The vibe is always welcoming, the drinks are solid, and the service is next-level thanks to David and Chuy. These two are truly the heart of the place friendly, attentive, and always making sure everyone’s having a great time. Whether you’re a regular or it’s your first visit, they treat you like family. If you’re looking for good drinks and even better people, this is the spot. Shoutout to David and Chuy you guys are the BEST!

Editing this review 7 years later. This is still the best bar in town. Can't compliment the selection, craftsmanship, and reasonable prices nearly enough. It far surpasses SF style cocktail bars but with better atmosphere and cheaper drinks!

This bar is great! Has a very cozy atmosphere with low light. The drinks are always creative and delicious. The pool table is in the corner and allows for a relaxed game. The only downside is that seats get taken fast!

Perfect After Party Spot – Amazing Drinks & Even Better Hospitality
We hosted our wedding after party at Mario & John’s Tavern, and it could not have been a better experience. The bar has the perfect vibe—lively and energetic without being overly loud—which made it a great space for our guests to relax, mingle, and celebrate.
I coordinated with Nick, the owner, and he was fantastic to work with. He’s straightforward and no-nonsense in the best way, but also incredibly fun, thoughtful, and accommodating. We had a couple of phone calls to make arrangements, and I visited the bar ahead of time to meet him in person and get a feel for the space. From the start, Nick made everything easy.
On the night of the event, he went above and beyond—he had drinks prepped and ready before our group arrived so no one had to wait in a long line at the bar. He also offered great suggestions for cocktail options, and every drink was absolutely delicious. It’s clear he knows his craft and cares about providing a great experience.
The cherry on top? At the end of the night, Nick surprised us with bottles of whiskey and sparkling wine—a generous and thoughtful gesture that made the night feel even more special.
If you’re looking for a cool, well-run cocktail bar with exceptional service and a personal touch, I can’t recommend Mario & John’s Tavern highly enough. Huge thanks to Nick for helping to make our wedding night unforgettable.
