The quality and creativity of omakase-style nigiris and roll were fantastic as always. The chef was very skillful and professional. Ingredients were fresh. A true gem in the bustling Haven Market. Yeah the ambience and noise levels are not as ideal due to being inside a food hall, but they make the best out of it, and the cuisine is truly delicious.

They charge for sriracha. You only get what comes on the roll. Anything else appears to be extra. Unless the cashier was upset i didn’t tip for my togo order.

Overpriced, basic sushi, bad service. Don’t go here. Toro was mid and overly expensive for the quality.

Excellent omakase. Truly a gem of Southern California. Be prepared for a traditional service.

This was just an amazing omakase course from start to finish. The freshness is there and the flavors kept building from one step to another. I’ve never had unagi nigiri with a touch of mascarpone before and I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. The blue crab hand roll was simple and fresh (with actual crab meat!) and the semi-finale otoro sashimi plate was just divine (picture here)

Absolutely insane amount of deliciousness coming from a market place. I love LA so much

A delightful surprise. Initial reaction was doubt upon discovering that it is located inside the Haven City Market. However, seating is inside the restaurant, away from the noisy foot traffic of the food court. Our dinner was the Omakase style sushi menu, a truly wonderful dining experience. We had our own sushi chef, Tony, who did a marvelous job of preparing a wide assortment of sushi for us, all of which was not only delicious, but prepared with a very entertaining flair. Shokunin is now our go-to sushi spot, and we look forward to returning again and again.

I’m very confused with this place and how it has such high reviews. Could the high reviews be just for the omakase portion? Because the rolls were absolutely inedible. The rice was not completely cooked so each bite had a few uncooked hard pieces inside. The “haven roll” was basically a sushi roll dipped in pure vinegar…. Disgusting. I never thought anyone could butcher sushi rolls as hard as this.

This was our first visit. The restaurant located in the Haven City food court and only has a sushi bar, with no tables inside. You can order to go and eat in the food court dining area. Omakase is the only thing available at the sushi bar. I was with five others, and not everyone eats sushi, so I almost canceled our reservation. I'm glad I didn't because their omakase was the best I've ever had. Each piece had a unique taste, and one was even smoked, which was amazing. For those who didn't want sushi, they made a couple of rolls and wraps in the kitchen, but they had too much rice, and the guys didn't like them. My husband and I are excited to return for the omakase.

In short, it's gone down hill fast. Came here over a year ago and thought it was amazing, truly a hidden gem. The portions were appropriately sized and the chef's were interactive.Came back, and it's not the same experience. First off, for a place serving "omakase", the sushi was the exact same as last time, down to the garnish. How can a place using fresh fish to make new offerings have a set list they go off of?Second, the portions have gotten minuscule.Third, the host/server is passive aggressive at best and rude at worst.Simply put, I was disappointed.

The restaurant is located in a large food court and is therefore rather open to a lot of outside foot traffic noise but otherwise eating here is a wonderful experience due to the absolutely delicious food and polite service.

This place is a gem inside the Haven City Market. The ingredients were fresh, and each nigiri course was carefully planned by the chef. The noise level cannot be helped due to it locating inside a food court. However, the entire dining experience was so enjoyable.
