I think this was a Korean restaurant for a little while, but the ownership has changed and the menu has completely changed as well. We came in on a Saturday evening, place was so packed. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, tables were cute and chairs were comfy. Menu had lots of Chinese BBQ skewers which is extremely popular in this area these days, some Asian fusion style items too. Most items were meats though. They serve beer but it's all canned, they just pour canned beers into containers like mason jars and pitchers. I had a few cans of Sapporo which were not cold enough for me. We had some seafood and meat skewers, grilled scallops with glass noodles, spicy crawfish, marinated pork feet and steamed pork dumplings. The food was surprisingly delicious that I was actually pretty impressed with the flavors. Portions and prices were fair too. One issue was that it was unbelievably slow for a while and so many orders were backed up for such a long time. So many dining people weren't happy with that and canceled their orders. After that the food came out pretty fast and the service got a lot better too. This restaurant opens till 2am everyday, it's good that we have a place for late night food and beer in this area!

So this restaurant is located in a large plaza that has plenty of free parking spaces . Decided to try this place out based on pictures , but once we got there they gave us a paper menu. Thought it was the appetizer menu , but when we asked for the regular menu. That's when they told us they no longer serve any of the dishes . So we were a bit disappointed thinking we would be able to try other Korean food items . So since we were already seated , we ended up just ordering a few things that they offered. So if you are coming here for the fried chicken items, or the Korean grilled stuff they no longer offer that. So maybe it's a change of management of some sort .

If it takes 30 minutes to get your 10 skewers then Come and support this place. I asked the staff kindly why after 30 minutes you cant bring out my 10 skewers. 10..... they said some party ordered 100.. so cant you bring me my 10??? Why do I have to wait for their 100 to finish cooking?? I gotta eat too.. price is cheap but time is money. Failed logic. Never coming back

Not sure why the page I'm looking at for Shakalaka says CLOSED. We ate here not too many days ago. But it looks like the menu offering changed? Lots of meats on a stick. Lamb, lamb rib, chicken, pork belly, even bacon wrapped enoki. Quite tasty. Well, it might be too salty and too seasoned for some people. Part of the slogan on the wall mentions the word pub. So maybe drinking will help cut the saltiness. But the blend they used to season each skewer is quite unique. Not just savory, but spice, pepper, acrid, aromatic. I really like it. Mostly the chicken and the lamb. So-so dishes we had included oysters and scallops. Not satisfying. I think the scallops could use more sear. Served in a shell, not a skewer. The fried calamari is lighter seasoned fare. But crisp, and tasty. Jellyfish was super salty!!! Was expecting it to be mellow, a bit sour, like a Taiwanese dish. Ambiance is nice. Friendly casual.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THIS PLACE NO LONGER OFFERS THE SIZZLING PLATES WITH MEAT, CHEESE, AND EGG. If thats what you're looking for in Rowland the only option is Mister Bossam. Stood at the entrance to the dead place for some time. Was finally seated from someone in the kitchen. The "Chef/waiter" did not speak a lick of english. Had to use my broken mandarin to find out that they stopped serving that dish a couple months ago. Strictly just a skewer joint now. I wonder if they switched management. So we got up and decided to eat somewhere else (Mister Bossam). We were REALLY craving the cheese ribs. The chef/waiter seemed visibly upset. Prolly will not be back. I'm sure there are better skewer places around the rowland area.

This is a interesting BBQ skewer restaurant, and with a name like shakalaka, I had to check it out. There were not a lot people in the restaurant, but visually the furnishing and design was really nice. The waitress and staff were helpful as well. They actually have a huge variety of selection of food, but if you come here the skewers are a must. We only ordered the skewers since it's their specialty. We ordered eggplant, lamb, chicken, beef and some more weird ones (chicken heart anyone?) Their skewers definitely taste amazing, really nicely bbq style with alot of spices and grilled over flame. The spices were really flavourful, and the meat was really rich and juicy. The only down side was that they were a little slow considering how few people were in the restaurant.

ok so if you like cheese then you should check this place out. We came here because it looked new and something we haven't tried before. we ordered the cheese pork rib pot and it sure was cheesy. for 25$ it came with 5-6 ribs in a bed of mozzarella cheese, a bowl size of kimchi fried rice, long edge of butter eggs, a little amount of cheese and corn, fried garlic and sweet potatoes. we skipped on the garlic and some of the yams. i think its a little overpriced but it was pretty good. We came on a sunday late afternoon around 4:30pm and we were the only customers. no music nothing just us and the food. the waiter is probably the manager or owner plus the cook. Felt a bit eerie and as if we were in another dimension. Id come back to try other things but it wasn't mind-blowing. honestly you can slap melted cheese on any food and if would be delicious.

Came here Sunday afternoon with a friend to eat here. Got seated quickly and ordered the blueberry pupping. The drink was very refreshing and I quite enjoyed the pupping balls popping into my mouth. Ordered three dishes,

Food took awhile to get to our table. The service was awful - I'm assuming that this was because it was a soft opening and the waiters were inexperienced.
